The Barstool Sessions at the Hollywood Social Club in Kingsbury Road, Erdington boats another fantastic evening on Friday 17th May. It is an intimate venue with a great atmosphere with 3 exciting and varied performers.   Doors open at 8pm and music starts at 9pm with free entry.  Once again there are 3 local acts performing at this very popular venue in the community.  Performing on 17th May are Rob Knowles, Tim Philpot and John Stranks.    The Barstool Sessions is a showcase night organised and created by Luke Knowles that, unlike an open mic nght which only allows 10 minutes a piece provides a platform with a full set of up to 40 minutes for their 3 acts.  Te Barstool sessions champion local artists and favour original music but have had cover artists as well.  "Most of our acts" explained Luke Knowles "come from in and around Birmingham and vary in age, style and range.  We take pre-bookings across the year and have had a lot of positive response from our artists in wanting to return.  We don`t pay mostly as I organise this event to try and put the host club, Hollywood Social Club, on the map as a music venue.  It is perfect for it and is over 100 years old, making it a unique venue to play in.  We have a warm, welcoming atmosphere and people are ready to listen to anything and give confidence to most nervous of performers".    Rob Knowles has been a staple of the local Birmingham music scene for decades and performed with his brother Alan.   Rob  was in a band called Bright Eyes which featured on the Live at the Barrel Organ Album released by Big Bear Records.  Rob was in a band called The Big cell before creating the covers band The Truckers.  He is 60 years old and mostly performs solo acoustic stuff but also performs in a band with his son Luke called the Wild Bush Turkeys.  He was born and bred in Birmingham and is well-known on the  Perry Barr, Great Barr and Sutton Coldfield pub music scene.   John Stranks is a West Midlands-based singer/songwriter with a large repertoire of well-crafted original songs and cover versions.  Delivering strong vocals with a sturdy guitar backing, he has performed as an acoustic solo artist at many venues, pubs, clubs, open mic nights and community events around the region.  He has also performed live on local radio and supported headline acts at The Roadhouse in Birmingham.  Further details and forthcoming gigs are listed on his website at https://www.johnstranks.uk.   Tim Philpot is a Sutton Coldfield songwriter and guitarist who is a favourite  on the local acoustic scene around north Birmingham. He has performed widely at folk festivals in Wales, Lichfield, the Black Country and Sutton Expo in the town centre for Sutton Coldfield BID. Tim famously played on stage as the Olympic Torch passed him in 2012 on it`s way to the Olympic Games in London.   He generously gives his time and energy for worthy causes such as cancer charities and the Scout Association.  Tim recently supported Sutton Coldfield Scouts with their latest Gang Show at Bishop Vesey School, with months of rehearsals, performing to approx. 250 people per night for  a week.      Tim has released his music on CD and YouTube videos and his performances at the Black Country Living Museum during the Black Country Festival in 2014  led to his nomination as Creative Black Country Master.
