PizzaExpress Moseley Review

Having reviewed and tasted the delicious food at the Bull-Ring PizzaExpress branch, I was not going to say no to another meal from PizzaExpress. This time, I reviewed the Moseley Branch, (Alcester Rd).

When walking in the Moseley Branch doors, my partner and I were pleasantly greeted by a member of staff, who kindly sat us down in a comfy, quiet area of the restaurant (which we requested on arrival). The table was very well presented, with candles placed in the middle of the table which was perfect for the Mrs, as she had previously labelled the night ‘Date Night’ (whatever floats her boat!).

Within a couple of minutes of being seated, we were approached by Molly who took our drinks order. The timing was perfect, we weren’t waiting around and she gave us some sound advice on what beverages were commonly ordered and recommended by previous customers.

After mulling over the impressive starters menu, I decided to go with the Dough Balls Formaggi, as I remembered the delicious Gran Milano cheese and garlic butter that accompanied the balls from our previous visit. Again I was not disappointed, the melted garlic butter was simply mouth-watering. My partner went with the Bruschetta con Funghi, described as a ‘closed cup mushroom, béchamel sauce and red onion served on dough, finished with chopped parsley and balsamic syrup’. I sampled this off the Mrs’ plate and was impressed. For any mushroom lovers I would certainly recommend this dish - very tasty!

Onto the mains, and this time rather than my decision being based upon spice, I decided I wanted a real meaty pizza. Again, undecided what to have, Molly suggested going with the Diavolo, and to add chicken and a selection of cured Italian meats on top of the pizza - what a great suggestion this was. The pizza was packed with meat and was complimented well by the sauces and chillis. I was really impressed with the portion of meat added on top too. The other half went for the Sloppy Giuseppe, topped with hot spicy beef, green pepper, red onion, mozzarella and tomato. Although the title of the pizza may suggest that the pizza may have been sloppy, this was not the case. In fact, the pizza base packed a crunch, along with tasty toppings - she certainly enjoyed it.

When taking away our used plates and cutlery etc, Molly gave us plenty of time to decide what we would like for desert. This was perfect for us as it gave us a decent amount of time for our meals to go down and allow us to indulge in some sugary goodness. For desert I went with the Honeycomb Cream Slice. This contained honeycomb and chocolate pieces in a light cream topping on a layer of salted caramel and crunchy biscuit with a mascarpone side. O.M.G, this was soooooo good, and well worth us waiting that extra five minutes for our meals to go down. I was extremely happy with my choice of desert. The Mrs’ went for the Chocolate fondant, which was new to the menu, and described as a rich and intense, warm chocolate cake, with a soft melting centre, served with vanilla gelato, fresh mint and icing sugar. Unfortunately the outer layer of the cake was burnt and left quite a bitter taste, so we felt ourselves scraping out the inside of the cake. The gooey interior of the cake was gorgeous and very tasty - it was just a shame the casing of the cake was burnt.

Overall, I am very impressed with PizzaExpress Moseley, their service, and their all-round hospitality. I am keen to point out that when we attended the restaurant it was during peak hours, between 7-9 on a Thursday evening, the restaurant was quick to fill up with customers. The PizzaExpress staff were quick and efficient at meeting the customer requirements. The staff were non-stop and always very polite - a credit to their branch. Molly was especially welcoming and helpful when it came to our order. Molly always seemed keen to go the extra mile to help me and my partner out.
