PizzaExpress Bullring Review

Thebestof Birmingham were kindly invited to recently visit and review the newly refurbished PizzaExpress in the heart of Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre. A chance to wine and dine the Mrs with no cost was always going to be accepted.

On arrival, we were pleasantly greeted by PizzaExpress staff who seated us promptly, and quickly took our drinks order. For starter, I ordered the Classic Italian Antipasto. A range of Italian meats complimented with buffalo mozzarella, peppers and soft dough which were accompanied with garlic butter and spicy tomato dip. This mouth-watering starter certainly lived up to its expectations. The plate was packed with fresh meats and fresh soft dough. Certainly a generous portion for one but I certainly wasn’t complaining. The Mrs went for soft dough balls baked with Gran Milano cheese, served with garlic butter - which I may add was very tasty after swiping one from here plate when she wasn’t looking. So far so good with the drinks and starters.

For main course, I chose the American Hottest, a pizza topped with Pepperoni, hot green and Roquito peppers, fresh red chilli, hot soft ’nduja sausage, tomato and buffalo mozzarella, finished with torn buffalo mozzarella, fresh parsley and chilli oil. Me being a sucker for hot food, I jumped at the opportunity to try the hottest pizza on the menu. Although it wasn’t the hottest Pizza I had ever tasted, I felt it was packed with spice and flavour, not too hot for those looking to experiment with a bit of spice. The Mrs went with the Diavolo, which consisted of hot spiced beef, pepperoni, mozzarella, tomato, green pepper, red onion and Tabasco, with the choice of hot green, Roquito or jalapeño peppers. The other half being a wetter when it comes to spice chose jalapeño. This pizza was extremely tasty, and generously topped with spicy beef. One would definitely recommend for meat lovers.

The pair of us sitting there bloated was offered the sweets menu to which at first we kindly refused, but after seeing the Salted Caramel Profiteroles (accompanied with a Baileys coffee), the Mrs soon changed her mind and I wasn’t far behind. We were not disappointed, a wonderful desert and coffee to finish a very enjoyable meal.

I was extremely happy with both the food and service provided at PizzaExpress and I am keen to point out the efforts of the staff, especially Ejay. He was kind, pleasant and not to forceful when it came to us making a decision on food. I hate nothing more than chewing on food then to be asked how my meal is. He was polite and very approachable.

Thebestof Birmingham would certainly recommend using this new, clean and fresh PizzaExpress restaurant in the Bullring.
