Back in September 2023, CQC inspectors visited us at Selly Park. Over two days, they toured different teams and departments, discovering more about the services we provide, and speaking to patients and their families for their feedback.

They went out in the community, and spoke to patients and families in our IPU. Overall, their feedback was incredibly positive and we are so thrilled to announce an ‘Outstanding’ rating was awarded.

This rating is testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication, and their passion and drive to delivering the best possible care for our communities.

Director of Care Services Sarah Mimmack paid tribute to our teams at the hospice, saying: “This now means that overall, both of our sites are outstanding. Congratulations to you all – this is purely down to the hard work and the care and love that we give to our patients and families every day. Thank you so much for everything you do.”

Some highlights from the report include:

• “Staff provided outstanding care and treatment. Patients and their families praised the service and consistently gave positive feedback.”
• “The services at the hospice worked effectively together as a multidisciplinary team to support the emotional needs of the patients and their families and to ensure patients were able to die in their preferred place.”
• “The staff at the service went above and beyond to provide emotional and practical support to patients and their families.”
• “There were innovative approaches to providing integrated person-centred pathways of care which involved other service providers particularly for people with complex and multiple needs.”

According to the CQC website, 23% of hospices have the ‘Outstanding’ rating, and just 1.8% of all care providers inspected.

This rating shows how precious our service is in our local communities and what unique and vital care it is that we provide. This is why we are fighting for our future and demanding proper funding for hospices from the government; we need to ensure our incredible service is there for people now, and in the future.
