Actor and playwright Mike Venables is bringing one of history's greatest composers vividly to life in Beethoven: Edge of Silence, an original one-man play that combines powerful storytelling with live performances of Beethoven's most celebrated music.
Accompanied by pianist Rebecca Weston, the production explores Beethoven's remarkable journey from a troubled childhood, through his rise to musical greatness, to his devastating struggle with deafness. Along the way, audiences encounter the loves, rivalries and personal conflicts that shaped both the man and his music, culminating in one of history's greatest unsolved romantic mysteries: the identity of Beethoven's "Immortal Beloved".
The production premiered earlier this year at The Midlands Arts Centre to enthusiastic audience and critical responses and continues to attract interest as it develops for future performances. The next outing is at the Midlands Fringe Festival on July 23rd.
Written and performed by Mike Venables, the production combines historical research, drama and live classical music in an intimate theatrical experience designed to appeal to both theatre audiences and lovers of classical music.
