Birmingham has been shortlisted as one of the six potential locations for the headquarters of Great British Railways (GBR) and we are keen to work together to secure this fantastic opportunity for the West Midlands as we enter a decade of opportunity for the region.
As part of this, we will be hosting an interactive networking session on Tuesday 9th August which will be attended by Rail Minister, Wendy Morton MP and the Great British Rail Team, as a way to showcase the best of the West Midlands. We will also be inviting rail and associated industries, training providers, and students from across the area.
GBR will be the new public body that will oversee a new era of innovation, investment, and integration across the rail network. It will decide where trains go, when they go and how much people pay.
Attracting GBR could be a catalyst for huge economic growth for the West Midlands. New employers to the region will help other sectors such as retail and hospitality, and with that job creation will come renewed prosperity, not just helping with levelling up, but restoring civic pride across the region.
We’re keen for media to help us highlight the campaign so there will be interview/filming opportunities with key speakers including the Mayor, Cllr Ian Ward and Wendy Morton MP.
