Maureen Lewis, Director and CEO of WBSC, has been nominated for the Wise Women Awards 2026 which will take place at the IET, Savoy Place in London on 28th September.  

 

Maureen a dedicated and compassionate Housing Officer with over 15 years’ experience making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals across the community care and social housing sector. 

 

"I’ve had the privilege of working with respected organisations such as Trident, Midland Heart, and MIND Birmingham, supporting young people and adults through some of life’s most difficult challenges, including mental health issues, domestic violence, homelessness, and substance misuse" said Maureen.  

 

WBSC is a registered Charity and a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) established July 1986. Our mission is to empower women and girls in Walsall and across the West Midlands.  

The  organisation was born out of the racially motivated tension an uprisings that took place across the country in the late 80s in response to severe racial discrimination that was being place upon black and other non-white ethnicities.

With proper support and opportunities, anyone can overcome adversity and create a better future. Working in partnership with statutory and voluntary services across Birmingham and surrounding areas, I deliver person-centred, empowering support through one-to-one counselling, mentoring, and personalised action plans. I’m fully committed to professional excellence, continuously updating my knowledge in areas such as safeguarding, equality and diversity, risk assessment, and trauma-informed care. I also hold a clean, full driving licence.

 

I bring creativity, empathy, and resilience to every role, and I’m passionate about championing those who often go unheard. My work is more than a career, it’s a calling. I’m driven by the belief that every person deserves a chance to live with dignity, purpose, and hope. I’m here to walk alongside them on that journey".

 

WBSC  have been established for  4 decades and is led by women who have lived experience of the people that they  support. Through various services designed to accommodate women through all stages of life, from adolescence to elderly and  are empowering the women across the region.
