Businesses from across the West Midlands have helped raise £11,343 in just nine days for University Hospitals Birmingham Charity’s appeal to help fund a Total Body PET-CT Scanner, through two fundraising events held in Birmingham.
The appeal aims to fund a Total Body PET-CT Scanner at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The new scanner could cut scan times from 30 minutes to five, add more than 2,000 appointments a year and reduce radiation exposure for children, pregnant women and vulnerable patients.
The fundraising stepped up a notch during Life Sciences Week, especially on 24th September at the Life Sciences Gala Dinner and Awards, held at the Great Hall, University of Birmingham, where guests raised £5,012 for the appeal.
Nine days later, on Saturday 3rd October, the One Thousand Trades Group hosted Mud, Sweat and Cheers!, a fundraising rugby lunch at Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club. Guests from across the business community enjoyed a three-course lunch before Birmingham Moseley’s match against Rams, with a raffle and auction raising a further £6,331. Together, the two events have brought the total raised to £11,343.
Managing Partner of One Thousand Trades Events, Amy Deakin, said: “Giving back to the community is a core part of what we do as a business - from Gala Dinners raising money for good causes to charity fundraisers and events. The Total Body Scanner Appeal really touched the hearts of the team and we have been delighted to get involved in such an important cause.”
Organisers have thanked everyone who attended, bought raffle tickets or bid at auction in support of the charity.
Charlotte Scofield, Director of Fundraising at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “We are really glad to have One Thousand Trades Group on board supporting this incredible campaign. The support we have received has been phenomenal and goes to show how much can be achieved when Birmingham businesses come together.
"The Total Body PET-CT Scanner is a ground-breaking piece of equipment as it is a great example of the advancements in healthcare and a huge leap forward in the care that patients will receive. The hospital charity needs to raise £7.2 Million to bring this technology to Birmingham and that really wouldn’t be possible without the support of local organisations and businesses.”
