Launching back in July, Queer Voices has welcomed a ray of local talent to headline its monthly open mics at Boston Tea Party in Worcester. On Thursday 26th March 2026 at Boston Tea Party, 18 Broad Street, Worcester, Queer Voices welcome Saida Chowdhury as our headliner. This will also be a day before Saida’s birthday. Queer Voices is an open mic poetry and spoken word night celebrating LGBTQ+ and transgender creativity, expression, and community.
Since the Worcester launch back in July, we have started monthly events online and in Birmingham. Bringing queer voices and allies together in a safe and inclusive environment. “The West Midlands is full of queer poets and allies,” says Melissa Poulton, Founder of Queer Voices. “Queer Voices will be a safe space where those from the LGBTQ+ and transgender communities can feel safe to express themselves and perform their words in a safe and supportive environment. Although queer people will be prioritised, Queer Voices is suitable for all ages and abilities. With going online, we get to hear more queer voices from around the UK and the rest of the World.”
Not only have we launched poetry open mics but we have launched our first poetry competition. We are looking for poems on the theme of “PRIDE”. The poem could be about attending your first parade, achieving something that you didn’t think you could or it could be a “coming out” poem. We are looking for one or two poems from as many people as possible by the 30th April 2026 at 11:59pm with the book launch in June 2026. All entries need to be emailed to info@queervoices.co.uk or given directly to Melissa Poulton
All events begin at 7.00pm and are open to the public. Those interested in performing are encouraged to email info@queervoices.co.uk to request a slot on the open mic. Our next online event is on Tuesday 10th March at 7pm on Zoom. If you require access, please email the above address.
With the support of Boston Tea Party, known for its welcoming atmosphere and strong community ethos, Queer Voices is a cornerstone of Worcester’s creative and queer-friendly spaces.
