Queer Voices launched back in July. Since then Queer Voices has welcomed many people to its in person and online events. In April, the monthly event in Worcester will be changing venue to Gaumont Coffee, 41a Forgate Street, Worcester, WR1 1EE. Queer Voices has grown a lot over the last 9 months and supporting a local independent business is something that we are proud to do.
Since the Worcester launch, we have started monthly events online and in Birmingham. We have changed what we offered from our first event and moving to a new premises that is closer to the train station will help bring more people into the city to share their words. We are looking forward to being part of the many exciting events that are held at Gaumont Coffee. Founder and host of Queer Voices Melissa Poulton said, “I am really looking forward to seeing what the next six months brings to Queer Voices. Especially as we continue to support local businesses like Gaumont Coffee.”
We are still looking for poems on the theme of “PRIDE” for our first poetry anthology. This is a reminder that the poems could be about attending your first parade, achieving something that you didn’t think you could or it could be a “coming out” poem. We are looking for one or two poems from as many people as possible by the 30th April 2026 at 11:59pm with the book launch in June 2026. All entries need to be emailed to info@queervoices.co.uk or given directly to Melissa Poulton. This is open to all people and not just queer people.
All the events begin at 7.00pm and are open to the public. Those interested in performing are encouraged to email info@queervoices.co.uk to request a slot on the open mic. Our next online event is on Tuesday 14th March at 7pm on Zoom. If you require access, please email the above address. We are joined by former Worcestershire Poet Laureate Ade Couper as our headliner for the evening.
Queer Voices would like to thank Jessie of Boston Tea Party and all the staff for everything that they have done for Queer Voices. They have been very supportive and we are sure that they will continuously be supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Worcester going forward.
