Monday 7 June, Colmore Junior School, Birmingham: Birmingham Phoenix cricketers Marie Kelly and Kirstie Gordon joined children from the school for the “Dynamos Cricket Does The Hundred” to encourage more kids to pick up a bat and ball this summer.

The young participants had the opportunity to play with their heroes and take part in a Dynamos session.

This session was one of eight taking place in the cities hosting The Hundred up and down the country, encouraging more kids to get involved in cricket – both through playing Dynamos and watching The Hundred at their local city ground. Each session is attended by top players from the local city-based team, inspiring children from Birmingham to play.

The events are also designed to provide a taste of everything Dynamos Cricket has to offer. The brand-new programme for 8 – 11-year-olds of all abilities will see kids get active, have fun and make new friends while developing their cricketing skills and playing a fast-paced, exciting game of countdown cricket – a new format that mirrors The Hundred.

Kids who sign up for Dynamos will receive free gifts and money-can’t-buy experiences associated with The Hundred and its partners. Dynamos is also supported by an app which includes a whole host of features and content designed for those just starting out on their cricket journey. It can be downloaded for free here.

Like Dynamos Cricket, The Hundred is designed to open cricket up to new audiences. Whether kids are new to cricket or already love the game, they can have fun playing through Dynamos and then watching all the live action and entertainment with their family at The Hundred. With June being Women’s Big Cricket Month, the taster sessions are an exciting opportunity for more girls to try out cricket through Dynamos and The Hundred.

Nick Pryde, Director of Participation and Growth at the ECB said: “Dynamos Cricket really is designed for everyone in the 8-11 age bracket. Whatever their skill or knowledge level, it is a programme truly designed for inclusivity. It was wonderful to see boys and girls of all abilities learning in Birmingham today, inspired by local heroes Marie Kelly and Kirstie Gordon. To have the Dynamos programme open in July whilst children and their families will also have the chance to watch Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred means that we have a very exciting Summer ahead in terms of both participation and inspiration.”

For those who want to give their children an opportunity to learn new skills, Dynamos Cricket will be running alongside The Hundred during the school summer holidays allowing plenty of time to sign up at www.dynamoscricket.com.

The ECB’s All Stars Cricket programme for 5-8-year-olds is also open for registration at www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars.

The Hundred promises a summer of unforgettable sport and epic entertainment to enjoy with friends and family. Tickets are great value for money: £5 for under 16s with adult tickets starting at £10, under-fives go free. Refund policies will be in place should matches be affected by Covid.
