The move marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth and strengthening its presence across the Midlands.
The new depot has capacity for up to 20 vehicles, with the Birmingham operation expected to expand in phases as demand continues to grow.
The site will be supported by a dedicated team of drivers, engineering staff and service delivery supervisors.
Designed as a fully operational base, the new facility includes a coach wash, engineering workshop, office space, staff welfare facilities and on-site parking.
The investment will enable Johnsons Coaches to support its growing customer base while maintaining high standards of operational efficiency and service delivery.
The strategic location of the new Smethwick depot will allow Johnsons Coaches to position vehicles closer to key customers across Birmingham and the wider Midlands.
With universities, schools and major business hubs nearby, the new base will help improve operational efficiency, provide greater flexibility and reduce vehicle repositioning and response times.
By locating vehicles closer to customers, Johnsons Coaches will also be able to reduce unnecessary ‘dead mileage’ - the distance vehicles travel without passengers.
This will help support more efficient operations and provide greater flexibility when delivering services for schools, universities, businesses and corporate clients.
The new depot will also strengthen Johnsons Coaches ability to deliver employee shuttle services, education transport and private hire solutions across the region.
Reducing unnecessary vehicle movements is also an important part of Johnsons Coaches wider sustainability objectives.
By operating vehicles closer to where services are required, the company expects to reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions while making better use of its fleet.
The Birmingham depot forms part of Johnsons Coaches ongoing commitment to developing a more efficient and environmentally responsible transport network as the business continues to grow.
The expansion is also expected to create additional employment opportunities across the business, including driving, engineering and operational support roles.
As the Birmingham operation develops, Johnsons Coaches is committed to investing in local talent and building a strong team based within the region.
Ashley Brown, managing director at Johnsons Coaches, said: “The opening of our new Birmingham depot is an important step in our continued growth across the Midlands.
This investment allows us to position vehicles closer to our customers, improving efficiency, enhancing service delivery and reducing unnecessary mileage.
“As demand continues to grow across both the education and corporate sectors, this new depot gives us the capacity, flexibility and local presence needed to support our customers while continuing our commitment to sustainable growth.”
The new Birmingham depot reinforces Johnsons Coaches commitment to operational excellence and dependable transport solutions for education and corporate customers across the Midlands.
The investment provides the foundations for further growth in the region, while giving existing and prospective customers greater flexibility, improved service reliability and access to a dedicated local operation.
Businesses, schools, universities and organisations looking to discuss their transport requirements are invited to speak to the Johnsons Coaches team about private hire, education transport, corporate shuttle services and other tailored transport solutions.
