A two-time captain of the British & Irish Lions is the guest of honour at a special luncheon organised by Birmingham Moseley Rugby club.

Sam Warburton will be attending the event on Friday 12 September, held at the Reddings Suite of the club.

Boasting 74 caps for Wales and five for the Lions, he was unbeaten as a Lions leader – having been victorious 2-1 in Australia in 2013 with more heroics in 2017 as New Zealand were held 1-1 with the final Test drawn.

As a youngster Warburton was a keen footballer and turned out for his school team alongside Gareth Bale, who went on to play for Real Madrid and Wales.

He had a trial with local club Cardiff City at the age of 14 but chose to concentrate on rugby instead.

Birmingham Moseley chief executive Emma Wilkinson said: “We are thrilled that Sam has accepted our invitation.

“He is hugely admired across the rugby world, is a fine speaker, and is sure to provide an amazing insight into life with the Lions.

“His commentary on the Lions’ recent tour of Australia, picking up on elements others hadn’t spotted, was second to none.”

Tickets are priced at £85 plus VAT per person or £160 plus VAT for prime seating, reserved parking and a welcome drinks reception beforehand with Sam.

The event gets under way at 12 noon.
