The Second City’s flagship Christmas Market will return in just under two weeks – here’s everything you need to know about the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham.
This year’s German Market starts on Thursday 17th November, and will open at 10am and close at 9pm every day.
This year it will run all the way until Thursday 29th December, with a break for Christmas Day.
As the Christmas Market is again located at Victoria Square, it’s in a prime position to be reached by public transport. The nearest train station to the German Market is New Street Station, however Snow Hill Station is just a five minute walk to Victoria Square, therefore using the train or tram is a viable option.
The Christmas Market can easily be reached by the city centre bus stops, as well as the Megabus stop on Hill Street, which is just a short walk to Victoria Square.
If you’re driving, which isn’t advised as you won’t be able to take advantage of the two pint glasses of beer, you will find plenty of parking options in and around Birmingham city centre.
Snow Hill train station car park offers the best access from the motorway and northern areas of Birmingham, and it’s also priced fairly cheaply, especially if you are parking in the evening or on a Sunday.
Other car parks nearer are available and the council run car parks on Navigation Street and at the Town Hall both offer reasonably priced parking, but have a limited capacity, so will fill up pretty quickly on busy nights. The New Street Station car park is to be avoided, as during the Christmas season it is likely to be busy and it’s quite expensive. The MailBox car park is also located within a short walk but also may get quite busy and isn’t as cheap as the council run car parks.
If you’ve never been to the Birmingham Christmas Market before, you’re in for a treat, quite literally. There’s everything from bratwurst to beer and all sorts of yummy sugary sweets, as well as all sorts of crafts and souvenirs to buy. You can get some great Christmas decorations and Christmas presents whilst enjoying two pints and a hot dog.
