During the ‘Road to China – Strategies for Building Effective Relationships with China’ seminar on June 25th at the Aston Business School, the discussion groups identified cultural understanding as a key factor in developing long term business relationships between China and the UK.  China West Midlands (CWM) 2020, which was launched in November 2017, aims to strengthen connections through a range of arts, cultural, education, sports and business events throughout the year in 2020.

  • Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority, on the WMCA strategy regarding trade and investment from China
  • Ian Ward, the Leader of Birmingham City Council, on working with the Chinese community to promote trade and investment with China
  • Christopher Kettle, Chair of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, on Stratford's growing relationship with China
  • Di Xiao, world class pianist in the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, on her plans for a summer Chinese Festival
  • Frances Yeung, cross culture community artist, on bridging the cultural gaps between East and West
  • Stephan Meier, Artistic Director of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, will provide an update on the results of the 10th China ConTempo Composition Competition
  • Updates on exciting CWM 2020 partners' projects and events
