Netflix and National Youth Theatre have teaming up to tackle negative perceptions about creative careers and make TV, Film & Theatre more representative of the UK through IGNITE.
IGNITE will deliver a workshop focussing on careers, including gaining experience and how to progress.
Jonathan Escoto Brown
Jonathan Escoto Brown is a composer and guitarist of British-Filipino heritage from Birmingham, UK.
Jonathan composed the original score for “DOG RUN,” winner of the Grand Prize Award at the Oscar qualifying, 41st Flickers’ Rhode Island Film Festival. For his work on the film, Jonathan received a nomination for the Crystal Pine Award for Best Original Score for Short Film at the International Sound and Film Music Festival 2023, and was long-listed at the British Short Film Awards 2023 in the same category.
Jonathan’s recent credits include the original score for comedy short, CODE/SWITCH, selected at the 33rd Raindance Film Festival (2025), and TO DISAPPEAR SUDDENLY, produced by Split Second Films, currently in post-production.
Alongside his work as a composer, Jonathan is an experienced guitarist and musician and is highly regarded in the UK’s jazz and reggae scenes. His recent performance credits include the Havana International Jazz Festival 2025 with Grammy award-winning percussionist, Lekan Babalola.
Lorna Nickson Brown
Lorna is an award-winning director and professional actress from Birmingham, UK.
She was selected by CreativeUK as one of ten emerging female filmmakers in the British creative industries and is currently being mentored by BAFTA-winning film and television director, Saul Dibb, through her selection on the 2025 DIRECTORS UK Inspire Programme.
Lorna’s short film, DOG RUN, won the 2023 Breaking Boundaries Grand Prize Award at the Academy Award-qualifying, 41st Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film BAFTA qualified with over 16 awards and nominations, and is now available on Apple TV. Her award-winning BFI NETWORK short, NED & ME, was selected in the 2021 International Competition at the Academy-Award qualifying, 43rd Clermont- Ferrand Film Festival and was nominated for a Royal Television Society Midlands Award.
She is currently in post-production with her next short, THE NET, a UK-Philippines co-production, supported by the British Council & the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
Her recent acting credits include, DOWNTON ABBEY: THE GRAND FINALE (Carnival/Focus Features), directed by Simon Curtis, and THE JETTY (BBC Studios/FirebirdPictures), directed by Marialy Rivas.
Lorna is a member of BAFTA and Directors UK. She is represented by United Agents.

We want young people (16-25 years old) who want to meet like minded people to give themselves the opportunity to create and grow. We want to help foster a strong filmmaking community with the aim of helping each other to realise their potential.

This is for 16-25 year olds from Birmingham who want to gain experience and knowledge about filmmaking or wants to meet like minded and motivated young people. You may have a role in mind or you may want to explore your options.
Note: we will also be taking photos and/or videos at the event. Please inform us ahead of the event or upon arrival if you do not wish for your photo to be taken.
