On October 3, Family Fund will be holding the Birmingham Firewalk at Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville, and is calling on local businesses to step up and join in.

The exhilarating feat is seen as the ultimate test of mind over matter, as walkers stride barefoot across a fiery path of smouldering wood without singeing their soles.

The charity event is being held in aid of Family Fund, which supports families on low income who are raising children with disabilities or a serious illness.

The charity gives grants for essentials they otherwise couldn’t afford, such as beds, bedding, clothing, tablets and tech to aid play and learning, as well as days out and short breaks.

It enables families to get some respite and relaxation, and make memories together.

Last year, Family Fund awarded more than 10,000 grants to families in the West Midlands, spending over £3.5 million.

Volunteers who want to put themselves and their team to the test of fundraising by fire can sign up online.

Family Fund is also looking for corporates who are interested in sponsoring the event. For more information, contact Alison Jones, family film community and volunteer fundraiser for the Midlands and South at alison.jones@familyfund.org.uk
