The Heath Bookshop presents an Author Event on 7th May 2026 at 6.30pm at the Bookshop.

Saida Chowdhury the Author of 'Broken Minds - Volume 1' will be joined with Wolverhampton Poet Laureate Dr Kuli Kohli.

Saida Chowdhury, a Poet and Human Rights Advocate will be joining The Heath Bookshop to discuss her book that was published in September 2025 by Hugh Ashton on j-views Publishing.  The artwork was kindly gifted by Christiane Jenkins of SUIT Wolverhampton. The Foreword has been written by Sureena Brackenridge MP for Wolverhampton North East and supported by Black Country Xtra Radio, Creative Connection, Legacy West Midlands and Poets Against Racism.

After over twenty years of writing Saida has finally gained momentum in reaching audiences after only performing her work for the first time in November 2024.  Since then she has performed at countless events spanning from Human Rights Day and International Women's Day at the University of Wolverhampton to The Wolverhampton Literature Festival 2026.

She has also headlined many events including Sounds in the Grounds Redditch, The National Recovery Walk Wolverhampton, Queer Voices and two events at the Midland Arts Centre for Bangla Month with BADA, Bangladeshi Artist Development Agency in collaboration with Legacy West Midlands.

Her poetry collection explores various themes of love, depression, loss and faith but they are entwined by her personal understanding of 'Kintsugi'.  The Japanese word, Kintsugi means 'Golden Joinery' and is a traditional Japanese art of mending broken pottery or ceramics using precious metal liquids or a lacquer and gold dusting, thereby beautifying the cracks.

Saida wants to apply this philosophy to human trauma and scars both physical and mental.

Her Author Event will see her supported by Dr Kuli Kohli who has not only written a review for the book but with whom she is part of The South Asian Women Writers Group, and performed together for International Women's Day 2026 at Bilston Library. Kuli has battled with mild cerebal palsey her whole life but despite that she has achieved great things. Not only does she host the monthly 'Virtual Voices' with Offa's Press, she was also selected to be a Rebecca Swift Foundation Associate for Wolverhampton, one of only three posts nationwide.

Kuli will share some of her own work and also explain why she was happy to support Saida Chowdhury and 'Broken Minds - Volume 1'.     For tickets please go to the website: http://www.theheathbookshop.co.uk
