Peter D Hehir is a Published Poet and Author from Birmingham, England. His unique and eclectic style has earned him the affectionate title, among his peers, as The Brummie Bard. Now at the relatively young age of 37, Peter has Four Full Poetry Collections  Published  and One War and Remembrance Collection to commemorate all the brave people who gave their lives so we could live.

Born and raised in the heart of Birmingham, Peter is a great advocate for this City and has always cited this in a number of his poems, ‘Pigeon Park’, ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Curzon Street’, to name just a few. Together with this and his deep rooted Irish Heritage, he has drawn on past influences and present day hopes and struggles to create a vast array of poems, which can now be considered work of pure literature art.

Although Peter has been writing since the age of 13, his major breakthrough, within poetry circles, came in 2020 with his most profound and heartfelt poem – ‘The World is Closed’. This beautiful piece of Poetry quickly went viral around the world, capturing the hearts and minds of people on every continent. It is this imagination and subtle poetic tone that has helped Peter to become revered in poetry circles.

As war once again rears its ugly head, the people of Ukraine are at the mercy of a tyrant, uncertain if they will see tomorrow. Peter has written a powerful piece, which is fast becoming a symbolic piece of writing across all social media platforms.

The Yellow and Blue

I’ve painted my heart on the yellow and blue,

And sent out a wish where the sunflowers grew,

I’ve shouted in silence and knelt down to pray,

In the hope that it’s heard by the end of the day.

I’ve witnessed the ruins but only on screens,

And talked of the pain like I know what it means,

I’ve turned up the volume but listened too late,

Sent an army of love into battle with hate.

I’ve watched from a distance and cried from afar,

At lives that exist on the edge of a scar,

I’ve sat and I’ve waited, swapped dusk for the dawn,

And prayed for a future where freedom is born.

I’ve seen many lives come apart at the seams,

As nightmares like shadows just followed their dreams,

I’ve wrapped up the world in the story of you,

As strong as the heart of the yellow and blue.
