Saida initially met Ruth at The International Women's' Day celebration held at The Guildhall in Lichfield on Saturday 8th March by The Mayor Councillor Claire Pinder Smith. She was accompanied by her son and Publisher, Hugh Ashton of j-views Publishing. She read some of her poems from her poetry collection 'Broken Minds - Volume 1' and Ruth who had been on the women only panel during the event, enjoyed the poetry very much and invited her to be on the show
Lichfield radio whose moto is 'accentuate the positive', was only launched on 19th January 2026 initially serving Burntwood and the surrounding villages their online broadcasting has meant that they now have listeners as far away as Africa and they cover a wide range of topics from health and wellbeing to music and local news.
Saida read a couple of poems from her poetry collection and discussed the upcoming event on Saturday 11th April celebrating the Bangladesh New Year also know as 'Pohela Boishak' Celebrations with BADA, Bangladeshi Artist Development Agency in collaboration with Legacy West Midlands.
"It was so wonderful to be given this opportunity to be in the studio with Ruth and not only share information about my book but also tell everyone about the exciting 'Pohela Boishak'. Ruth's positive energy is just what I needed to start off my Wednesday!" Saida said.
The celebration will span over two days with the first event being held at City if Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Centre.
The first event will see the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra play as well as renowned singer Sohini Alam supported by her band Khiyo and poetry readings from poets, Saida Chowdhury and Tarek Chowdhury, funnily not related.

The second event will be a fayre style celebration at Soho House Museum, on Sunday 12th between 12 -5pm and that will see a street procession, delicious food, cultural arts, crafts and traditional song and dance performances. Immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of 'Pohela Boishak'. This event is free to attend but go on to the website to book yourself a free ticket at www.legacy-wm.org. Both are inclusive events. All are welcome!
