A Birmingham solicitor, playwright and poet was invited in celebration of the 76th Anniversary of the founding of the People`s Republic of China.

Ian Henery has been successful in getting a third Arts Council England grant to research and tell the often overlooked tale of migration from China to Birmingham.  His first play, The Chinese Labour Corps, saw a successful week-long run at the Blue Orange Theatre in Birmingham and was streamed across Birmingham by the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee for chinese New Year.

Ian Henery, alongside various other members of his team who were awarded an Arts Council England grant to celebrate migration from China to Birmingham over the past 100 years, were formally welcomed by members of the Chinese Embassy and the Birmingham Chinatown Business Association.

"What a fantastic day celebrating the 76th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at Birmingham Council House" said Ian Henery.

"Over 300 members of our Chinese community and dignitaries from Chinese Embassy and the  Lord Mayor of Birmingham attended the memorable event.  The arts and culture on display truly wowed the crowd and showcased the beauty of  traditional Chinese culture.

A huge thank you to Birmingham Chinatown Business Association  for organizing this wonderful event and giving us the opportunity to share our rich heritage right here in the UK. Here's to cultural unity and proud traditions!"
