In a talk titled Life Inside the Dome, Colin Hutcheson will share insights into the operation of the planetarium at Thinktank, including technical maintenance, research, coding and cleaning, as well as highlighting what can be seen in the night sky.
The annual worldwide science festival is being held on the 18 May at Stirchley Baths and will bring academic and scientific discussion into local pubs and cafes and other informal public spaces.
Thinktank’s planetarium was the first purpose built digital planetarium in the UK, opening in December 2005, specially designed to help visitors explore astronomy, space and the night sky.
Since then, it has wowed over 1.5 million visitors with shows, films and artwork.
Colin Hutcheson (pictured) said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in this year’s Pint of Science festival and to have the opportunity to share some behind-the-scenes insights into my work at Thinktank.
“Events like this are a great way to engage people with stories and ideas in an accessible and informal setting.”
Laurence Butler, head of visitor experience at Birmingham Museums Trust, said: “We are proud to support opportunities like Pint of Science that connect our experts with new audiences and encourage curiosity, discussion and learning.”
Colin will be speaking as part of Atoms, Aliens & Artificial Intelligence at Stirchley Baths on Monday 18 May.
