Amy Dyke and Sam Hunt who are both team leaders at the charity’s Birmingham Centre in Catherine-de-Barnes, Solihull, have spent the past two years balancing their full-time responsibilities caring for homeless dogs and supporting their colleagues, alongside studying for their qualifications.
Their hard work, determination and commitment to personal development have now paid off, with both achieving distinctions in recognition of their efforts.
At Birmingham Dogs Home, investing in staff development is an important part of the charity's commitment to providing the highest standards of care for the thousands of homeless dogs who come through its doors each year.
By providing opportunities for employees to develop their leadership skills, gain new qualifications and progress within the organisation, the charity is not only supporting individual career development but also helping to build stronger, more knowledgeable teams for the future.
Areika Bickerton, head of operations at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “We are incredibly proud of Amy and Sam and everything they have achieved.
“Completing an apprenticeship alongside a demanding full-time role takes real dedication, determination and commitment, and to both achieve a distinction is a fantastic accomplishment.
“As a charity, we strongly believe in investing in our people and giving them opportunities to develop, learn and progress throughout their careers.
“Our teams are at the heart of everything we do, and by helping them build their confidence, knowledge and leadership skills, we are investing in the future of Birmingham Dogs Home.
“What's particularly important is that the skills they have gained don't stop with them. As team leaders, Amy and Sam are now able to share their knowledge, mentor colleagues and support the development of those around them.
“That creates a positive learning environment across the organisation and ultimately helps us continue improving the care and support we provide to the dogs who depend on us.”
For Sam, completing the apprenticeship has been a particularly rewarding personal achievement.
Balancing his studies alongside the demands of his full-time role required determination, patience and perseverance, with support from his mentors and colleagues helping him achieve his goals.
Sam, team leader at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “Taking on this apprenticeship was a really big step for me, and there were certainly times when I found it challenging, particularly balancing my studies alongside my full-time role.
“It has taken a lot of patience, determination and hard work, not only from myself but also from the mentors who have supported and encouraged me throughout the journey.
“I'm incredibly proud of what I've achieved, and I cannot thank Birmingham Dogs Home enough for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.
“Having that support and encouragement has made such a difference, and achieving a Distinction has made all the hard work worthwhile.
“I've learnt so much throughout the apprenticeship, and it's given me a much greater understanding of leadership, communication and how to support the people around me.
“I'm really looking forward to putting everything I've learnt into practice and sharing that knowledge with other members of the team so that, together, we can continue doing even more for the dogs in our care.”
