The council's Community Safety team has joined colleagues from West Midlands Police, local business districts and support organisations in a coordinated initiative aimed at addressing behaviours that can negatively impact residents, workers, visitors and businesses in the area.
The partnership approach combines visible engagement, targeted enforcement where necessary, and access to support services for vulnerable individuals. Activity has been focused on responding to concerns raised by the local community and ensuring public spaces remain welcoming and accessible for everyone.
By bringing together agencies with different expertise, the initiative is seeking to address both the immediate issues affecting the area and the wider factors that can contribute to anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Jane Baston, Cabinet Member for Equalities Communities and Social Justice, said: "Cathedral Square is an important civic space used by thousands of residents, workers and visitors every week. Our priority is making sure people feel comfortable, safe and welcome when spending time in the city centre.
"This work demonstrates the importance of strong partnerships. By working together with the police, business representatives and support services, we can take a balanced approach that combines enforcement with early intervention and support for those who need it.
"We want Birmingham city centre to be a place where communities, businesses and visitors can thrive, and we will continue to listen to local concerns and respond with our partners."
The council is encouraging members of the public and local businesses to continue reporting concerns, helping partners build a clear picture of community issues and direct resources where they are most needed.
