A Birmingham business has been closed following a successful application by Birmingham City Council's Trading Standards team.

Birmingham Magistrates' Court granted a Closure Order against M1 Shisha Shop Limited in Erdington, following an investigation led by Birmingham City Council Trading Standards. The premises also traded under the name A1 Shisha Shop Limited from the same address. 

The order which was the first closure order for the council was secured as part of ongoing efforts to tackle illegal activity, protect consumers and support legitimate businesses across Birmingham. Trading Standards officers attended the premises on two separate occasions – January 2025 and March 2026 – seizing illicit vapes and tobacco products.

A further visit last month, which involved a test purchase exercise led to yesterday’s closure order. Following the court's decision, officers attended the premises to enforce the order and formally close the business. 

The closure was part of enforcement activity under Operation CLOUD, involving Birmingham City Council and partners.

“The vast majority of businesses in Birmingham operate responsibly and make a positive contribution to the city's economy. Where there is evidence that enforcement action is necessary, we will not hesitate to use the powers available to us to protect residents and support legitimate traders.”

The council continues to work closely with partner agencies to identify and address illegal activity across the city.
