From Monday 3 August at council car parks and on-street parking, drivers paying online will be able to choose from a range of participating parking apps and payment providers when paying for parking.
The National Parking Platform is a national initiative supported by the Department for Transport, enabling councils to offer greater choice in how drivers pay for parking.
Currently RingGo is the only payment app available in council carparks; with NPP drivers will also be able to use Appyway, PaybyPhone, APCOA, Connect and JustPark.
Existing payment machines will continue to be available where they are currently provided.
Cllr Rob Grant, cabinet member for transport, said: “There are many ways to travel into and around Birmingham, and we want to make it even easier to get around using public transport or active travel. However, when people need to use cars, they want the way they pay for parking to be straightforward and joining this platform means far more choice when paying on the go.”
