The scheme will give shoppers the opportunity to support the charity’s vital work tackling domestic abuse.

Until December, customers shopping at Waitrose Solihull can show their support by placing their green token in the charity’s collection box.

The charity could receive up to £1,500 in funding to help sustain its frontline services for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Through Community Matters, Waitrose has donated over £50 million to good causes so far. Every three months, Waitrose core shops let customers vote for one of three local organisations they want the branch to support.

The outcome of this vote decides which organisation comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with each receiving a donation of £1,500, £1,000, and £500 respectively.

For more than 40 years, Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid have provided frontline domestic violence and abuse support services to women and children across Birmingham and Solihull.

The potential funding would help the charity continue delivering essential support to those affected by domestic abuse, while supporting its wider campaign for a future where women and children can live free from fear and abuse.

Fiza Nazeem, (pictured) community-based fundraiser at Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid said: "I'm thrilled that Waitrose chose us for the scheme - it means the world that the local community will have the chance to support us and learn more about our work with women and children experiencing domestic abuse in the local area."

Local shoppers are encouraged to take part by using their green tokens to vote for Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid when visiting Waitrose Solihull before the scheme closes in December.
