The partnership is set to remove all barriers to entry for budding young cricketers on the Warwickshire County Cricket Club Pathway.

As part of a multi-year agreement, the university’s support will see Warwickshire deliver a comprehensive Pathway programme, which is free for all parents – one of the only counties to do so.

Every player will receive free playing kit and pay zero programme fees, removing financial barriers and enabling greater inclusion across the talent development structure.

The excellence of the University’s expertise in sports science and data science will also support performance research for both the Warwickshire men's and women's cricket.

The announcement comes as the University of Birmingham celebrates a landmark year for sport.

Ranked in the top 10 institutions in the world for sport-related studies in the prestigious QS World University Rankings, the university is also marking the 80th anniversary of teaching physical education and sport, having become the first university in the UK to teach PE in 1946.

“The added benefit of the University’s strength in performance sport and data science will further enhance our high-performance environment, and we’re hugely excited by what this can deliver.”

The University of Birmingham logo will appear on the sleeve of all kits from the 2026 season.

The collaboration will also open opportunities across performance research, student experience, placements, and community outreach, further integrating the two institutions in support of cricket across the West Midlands.
