The team swapped trade mark and patent law for a morning of practical improvement projects across the site.
Despite a few brief showers they enjoyed favourable weather conditions repairing fencing around composting areas, enhancing the seating within the centre’s open-air amphitheatre, and assisting with environmentally friendly soil preparation techniques used to support the centre’s fruit and vegetable growing areas.
The amphitheatre benches, originally crafted from reclaimed church pews, were sanded and repainted as part of the refurbishment work.
Tracy Arch, trade mark partner and head of CSR at Barker Brettell said: “While a few sore muscles were reported the following day, the team agreed that the experience was both enjoyable and highly rewarding.
“The volunteering session not only contributed to the centre’s mission of maintaining safe and accessible green spaces for the local community but also provided an excellent opportunity for colleagues to strengthen relationships, collaborate in a different environment, and develop new skills.
“We would strongly encourage other organisations and individuals to consider supporting similar community initiatives across Birmingham.”
Located just a short distance from the city centre, the Nature & Wellbeing Centre provides a valuable green space for local residents, promoting wellbeing, environmental sustainability and community engagement.
For those seeking inspiration for a local walk or outdoor escape, the Birmingham Settlement Nature & Wellbeing Centre is well worth a visit.
The site also features an on-site café, making it an ideal destination for coffee or lunch. A variety of events and activities are planned throughout the summer, including a community festival and fun run, offering further opportunities for residents to get involved.
Following the success of this volunteering day, Barker Brettell plans to organise another session later in the year and looks forward to continuing its support for this important community resource.
