A studentship is a form of doctoral funding that is often attached to a specific project.

The University’s College of Business and Social Sciences has opened applications for its first tranche of studentships, which will see 18 fully funded three-year projects.

The topics include ‘Leveraging Digitalisation for the Internationalisation and Growth of Ethnic Minority Businesses in the West Midlands’, ‘Futures of Digital/House work’ and ‘Reading Covid Fiction: Style and Response’ among others.

All the projects will cover maintenance costs. This funds living costs for the award holders and are paid in 12 monthly instalments over the entire three year award.

Professor Zoe Radnor, pro vice-chancellor and executive dean for the College of Business and Social Sciences at Aston University, said: “I am delighted to see applications open for our next round of Studentships.

“They are the lifeblood of inclusive universities, opening doors for diverse talents and fostering innovation in vital areas.

“This investment reflects our commitment to nurturing tomorrow's leaders in business, law and social sciences. These fully funded projects not only support academic pursuits but also address real-world challenges.

“I look forward to further ensuring that every aspiring researcher has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society and thrive in their academic journey into the future.”

The deadline for October 2024 entry is Monday 3 June 2024.

A second tranche of projects will be announced in the summer of 2024 for January 2025 entry.
