Accountancy firm Bishop Fleming has appointed three new partners to its expanding Birmingham office.

The new appointments extend its specialist leadership in audit for Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisations and bolsters its valuation services for clients across the Midlands and beyond.

The addition of this trio takes the number of partners to eight and brings the total based in the city to nearly 30 people, in a little over a year since its Colmore Row office was launched.

James Taylor has been appointed audit partner, specialising in not‑for‑profit organisations, while Tim Thackaberry joins the firm as Valuations Partner.

The appointments enhance Bishop Fleming’s senior leadership team in Birmingham and support its ambitions to build the office into a key regional hub.

James Taylor will work closely with Bishop Fleming's regional hubs, focusing on driving growth and presence for Bishop Fleming’s NFP audit offer across sectors, including charities, social housing providers, educational institutions and wider public-interest entities.

He brings over 15 years of experience in auditing a range of charity, social housing and education organisations, advising clients on governance, controls and financial reporting.

His previous roles include director and senior managerial positions at BDO and Cooper Parry, as well as earlier audit roles at Dains.

James Taylor said: “Bishop Fleming's commitment to social mobility and fundraising and its ambitious growth plans made it a natural choice for this stage of my career.

The firm’s Birmingham office offers a rare opportunity to help grow the location into a fully-fledged regional hub, while benefiting from the infrastructure and support of an established national firm.

“I’m looking forward to meeting clients and colleagues, as while advances in technology and AI drive efficiency, audit remains fundamentally a people-focused profession.

It’s about combining the best of both - using technology to enhance delivery, while keeping our focus on clarity, accessibility and strong client relationships.”

Tim Thackaberry joins the Advisory team in a newly created role, providing non-contentious valuation services to the firm’s audit and tax clients.

He will support both tax and financial reporting functions by providing specialist valuation expertise across a range of scenarios, including valuing shares for employee share schemes and company buy-outs, and supporting high-net-worth individuals with tax planning through the valuation of trading businesses and property investment companies.

The valuation service will also play a key part in financial reporting, undertaking purchase price allocations (PPA) for acquisitions to assess and value tangible and intangible assets in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and UK GAAP requirements.

Tim brings over two decades of experience in forensic accounting and valuations, specifically within the SME and mid-market sectors.

He has held senior roles at BDO, Mazars, and, most recently, Azets, where he significantly expanded the forensic and valuation practice.

Tim Thackaberry said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Bishop Fleming and its growing Birmingham office to strengthen its specialist valuation services.

The firm has a strong reputation for the quality of service it provides, its people and as a place to work. I’m looking forward to supporting our clients throughout their business lifecycle with advisory services that deliver real value.”

The firm has also confirmed that Mark Taylor, Birmingham office lead, has joined the partnership.

As former Regional managing partner of RSM, Mark was originally brought into Bishop Fleming in a consultancy role and has been instrumental in establishing and growing the office from scratch.

Mark Taylor said: “It’s been a privilege to help launch something new to the West Midlands market over the last 15 months.

“My appointment as a partner cements my ambition to continue that journey with Bishop Fleming and continue building something fresh in the mid-market space. I am excited for what the future holds for our business.”
