About 30 businesspeople attended the inaugural event at Waylands Yard coffee shop to meet and chat over brekkie and a coffee.

It was organised by the Birmingham branch of Azets, the UK top 10 accountancy and advisory firm.

Rachel Green from the branch and one of the organisers said: “The intention was to bring people together who are at the start of their professional careers, there was no age limit.

“We had nearly 30 attendees from a number of sectors who came along and after a brief introduction from my colleague Alex Dent were able to get to know each other.

“There is a risk in some businesses that people will be promoted to very high positions without having done much networking or having developed relationships.

“With more people working from home and the increased use of online meetings there are perhaps fewer opportunities for young professionals to meet in person.

“We organised the ‘Azets Rise and Connect’ breakfast meeting to see if there was a demand.

“Without really promoting it we had a large number attend and such was the feedback that we have decided to make them regular events.

“It was pleasing to see these young professionals networking and starting to build relationships that will hopefully remain for the rest of their professional careers.

“The event was deliberately casual with no sit-down formality, but instead a relaxed atmosphere, bacon rolls and coffee. We wanted it to be a soft landing and that was greatly appreciated by those who came.

“The next one will be held in June with details to be arranged.”
