The Great Parking Peril Escape

Those of you who follow this blog may recall an earlier posting entitled "Park At Your Peril" (11 August 2008). It seems I am not the only prospective victim of parking in the lay-by next to St Mary's Church, Goldington Road.

In this week's Times & Citizen a letter from a Mr. White recounts an almost identical episode. It differed in only one respect. Bedford Parking Services backed away from enforcing the penalty when faced with the prospect of having to defend their approach before an independent appeals panel.

How is it that I can be forced to pay while another worthy citizen is not similarly liable?

Don't get me wrong. I am very pleased that Mr. White has escaped the clutches of our local revenue generating machinery. But are we not all equal before the law? How is it that our local officials can get away with such inconsistent and disparate treatment?

I have written to congratulate Mr. White on his victory over Bedford Parking Services. Purely in the spirit of scientific enquiry, you'll understand, I also asked him how he has managed to effect this feat of sense over insensibility.

Would I wish to take advantage of the same tactic? Moi?

Naturally, in the noble spirit of public service I will pass on anything I learn to all others on the Best of Bedford site so that they can benefit in the same way.

Watch this space.
