Four of us there last night 6th Jan for a meal, can only say really lovely food and great value. Very friendly and informative staff, great to talk with the owner/head chef at the back of the evening.
Compares favourably with any local restaurants including Michelin starred restaurants.
Small number of covers and a weekly tasting menu that is changed each week

This establishment hits all the marks for me, excellent quality of food with contemporary yet elegant plating and attentive staff with an atmosphere so perfect for a fine dining meal with a more casual feel.
This years December menu left me completely astounded right from the first course (Citrus cured sea trout) which had a texture from fish I have never experienced, followed by the Parsnip veloute served with a whipped goat's cheese that can only be described as magical. For a main I chose the Cod loin which was cooked to perfection and the chowder that it sat upon was rich and full of flavour from the clams. I finished with Mark's very unique take on "Christmas pudding" with silky pannacotta sat on a thin layer of Christmas pudding, garnished with soaked, sweet, plump golden raisins and a beautifully spiced tuile.The dessert this night has stayed in my mind since and will do for some time, I am sure. I would highly recommend this venue to any self confessed "foodie" with confidence that you would return to me with a glowing review.

Firstly, 5 stars doesn’t do Base restaurant justice . The Chef, Mark Satterthwaite was contacted by me around a month ago, we were visiting with family and were looking for a well recommended restaurant.
I told Mark whether he could source Halal meat, he contacted me stating this was possible and went above and beyond in terms of his service , ensuring that all our dietary requirements were met.
He altered his Christmas menu to make our meal incredibly special, and I can’t thank him enough ! The food was outstanding , warm and welcoming staff and I will definitely be visiting again next time the family and I visit ! Thank you so much Mark & Base staff
