We booked for a meal with the wine pairing at Base to celebrate our 11 year anniversary (little did I know it was also a engagement celebration meal too) and I can’t think of the words to describe how incredible the whole meal was! From the moment we arrived we were welcomed so warmly and the waiting staff made us feel really special in our celebrations.
Every single course was exquisite and it’s hard to pin point a course as they were all so perfect. Between me and my partner we had a vegetarian option and a meat option and the food was just exceptional across all the courses. We also had the wine pairing with it and again it just made the meal even more perfect.
Would 100% recommend to anyone who likes great food, great service and a great experience!

I booked the evening set menu for my mum’s birthday as a friend had recommended Base. The food looked amazing on the website and the menus were really interesting. The set menu changes weekly with fresh, in season, local produce. We were met by friendly and welcoming staff; the set-up is open and it’s great to be able to see chefs preparing your food - really builds the anticipation as you see the ingredients and the dishes built at the pass. The staff were great at explaining each dish and everything was fantastic. I have a shellfish allergy and the dish I couldn’t eat was replaced without an issue. Each course was well paced and the evening felt relaxed throughout (sometimes you can feel either too rushed on or be waiting too long between courses with set menus I find). The business model of a single sitting of a set menu is a fantastic idea too, meaning a massive cut in food wastage, something we’re all more aware of these days. The chef took the time to come and talk to all the tables at the end of the night and it was great to hear his passion for local, and sustainable food coming through.
Overall a fantastic night….we’ll definitely be back!

We came across this by chance whilst walking up to the John Barrow monument. Went in for their pre lunch menu and each had the pancakes. The quality is amazing and can tell they take pride in serving high quality and aesthetically pleasing dishes. Definitely worth a visit to this hidden away location.

You will find just what you expect in a small town market hall, a nice selection of stalls with friendly stall holders to chat with.
Just outside you will find an Estate gent/ café an unusual blend but we enjoyed a light lunch there that was excellent value and very nice.

First visit to the area, so had coffee here before walking up to the monument. Having then seen the menu, we decided to have lunch afterwards. What an absolute treat!! An imaginative menu, rather than just your normal sandwiches, soup, burgers etc. Very tasty, well presented, locally sourced ingredients, unpretentious and reasonably priced. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and helpful too. Even the chef came out to talk to people. Certainly a lesson to other food outlets in the area.
