Firstly, 5 stars doesn’t do Base restaurant justice . The Chef, Mark Satterthwaite was contacted by me around a month ago, we were visiting with family and were looking for a well recommended restaurant.
I told Mark whether he could source Halal meat, he contacted me stating this was possible and went above and beyond in terms of his service , ensuring that all our dietary requirements were met.
He altered his Christmas menu to make our meal incredibly special, and I can’t thank him enough ! The food was outstanding , warm and welcoming staff and I will definitely be visiting again next time the family and I visit ! Thank you so much Mark & Base staff

Excellent Food & attention to detail with the presentation to the food & in the kitchen. The chef was very relaxed & in contol in the kitchen a pleasure to watch the portion size was perfect. The taste was to die for in all the courses we had.

This is a place that’s a real find. This guy and his team can really cook. Wonderful smoked duck starter and superb smoked haddock risotto. The service was very good indeed. Don’t hesitate to try this fabulous place. No wonder the reviews are so good.

What a find! Taken here by friends for dinner. Only open Thursday to Saturday nights for dinner (also serves lunch but different menu) and there is a set menu which changes every week. The food was outstanding. Some places which serve food of this standard can be a bit stuffy. I don't mind that but prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. This restaurant is relaxed but comfortable. Excellent service made easier by the fact you don't have to choose what you are having! Modest but more than adequate wine list. Kitchen is open to restaurant which creates a live feeling and Head Chef/owner Mark Satterthwaite comes round for a chat at the end of the meal. Nice touch. I can be a bit faddy when it comes to choosing food but when it's a taster menu I just take what's on offer and it's always delicious. Don't worry abut what it says on menu just enjoy the food. Can't wait to go again.

Me and my wife ate here tonight. Had an amazing dinner from start to finish already looking to go again.
The corn chowder was amazing to start and the pork cheeks and monkfish main were as good if not better. Can't recommend enough if you enjoy proper food In a intimate setting.

I went with a friend and we had the most lovely evening .
The food was so delicious and mark the chef kindly adapted the food for my gluten free requirements.Each course was well prepared and presented and we would have loved the cheeseboard but were too full.
I highly recommend this dining experience.The staff are friendly and efficient and it’s a 10 out of 10!

What can I say…. Group of 7 mates enjoying each other’s company in great surroundings with the most fabulous food and service.

Really lovely evening: the menu was great; the flavours just mouth watering and very different. Watching the meals being served and the attention to detail was incredible to watch: a real art. The ambiance of the Venu was perfect and the service was faultless. Would highly recommend.

The waiting on staff gave full explanations of every course and at the end, the chef visited each table for individual feedback. The atmosphere was great: limited stables which felt comfortable in current times. A really enjoyable and relaxing evening. I would recommend booking in advance.

My partner and I stopped by Base for lunch after visiting the lighthouse, it was delicious so we decided to book the 7 course meal for a later date. The food was delicious, the different flavours were incredible and each meal was so beautifully presented. The whole experience was amazing; the staff were all great, especially Abbey who was so attentive and friendly. It was also lovely to speak to the chef who is super talented. We can not wait to return, thank you to the whole team for such a wonderful experience.

One of the best dining experiences and the food was exquisite. The 7 course meal was lovely enjoyed every part of the menu , and learnt that this changes weekly. You must book in advance. I was raving about it because it was superb. We were lucky enough to get a table at the front so we could see the chef cook and serve. - only around 17 people seated. Lovely atmosphere. Waitresses pleasant and tell you what each dish is. I was so full by the end I thought I would have to be rolled out. Will defo be back!

A fantastic, locally sourced menu with stunning flavours. Mark has a gift for creating delicious dishes - the citrus smoked sea trout was truly memorable. A real gem of a find - Mark is definitely a chef to watch.

Every one of the 7 courses were delicious, and between us we had both the Vegetarian and Meat menus. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The team were friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about bringing local Cumbrian produce to our table.Simply fantastic.

Having read the previous reviews I knew we were in for a great meal, but this was even better than we had imagined. On a very wet day, we decided to have lunch here and opted for a selection of the small plates. They were beautifully presented and particular highlights were the Halloumi Fries, Goats Cheese Bon Bons and Buffalo Wings. In fact everything sounded so appetising, that they will require further visits!
And a special mention must go to the Salt & Rosemary Chips, full of flavour and very moreish. Children are also catered for with a good range of choices for them too, again, these went down well. Service was also excellent and this restaurant deserves all the accolades it is receiving. We will definitely return for an evening meal and for more lunches too. A fantastic place to go when you're in Ulverston, located in lovely Ford Park and just at the bottom of the walk up Hoad Hill.
