We visited base restaurant on a visit to Ulverston and weren’t disappointed. The evening meal is a set tasting menu although the chef can tailor the dishes to accommodate any dietary requirements. The kitchen is open so you watch the food being prepared as you’re dining. Excellent food and great service. Would recommend.

Friendly service but ordered fizzy water and it was a huge bottle... enough for 2 but they didn't tell us that. Bread cost £3 and was very thoroughly handled

Fabulous meal at the Base Restaurant on Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The whole atmosphere, food, service was superb. It was fantastic to watch Mark and his team prepare the set meals under our watchful eye, the attention to detail is second to none in the preparation in adding the final touches to the food/ dishes (please see attached photos).
Mark does try to use a locally sourced food influence his menus and it really works.
Thanks again to all the staff, the service team in their new uniforms which look so professional, the kitchen team and of course Mark, cannot wait to return.

What can I say, absolutely fantastic! Atmosphere was just right, food was outstanding and service was perfect. Honestly the most delicious meal we've had in a very long time cannot recommend it enough. Perfect birthday treat we will definitely be back. Well done all a hidden gem.

The evening restaurant experience is very good. Relaxed ambience with friendly, helpful staff & chat with the chef. Lovely food & a bonus being able to watch the prep & plating. Highly recommend.

I'll keep it simple as raving about specific courses is irrelevant as the menu changes weekly.

Food was excellent and would definitely return, especially with the menu changing every week. The whole service lasted 3 hours which was a tad long for me but apart from that it was a very good meal

A great concept of a set menu with six courses for a small and very friendly restaurant. Food and wine superb at a good price.
Staff were all very engaging with Head Chef Mark taking time to speak to all of his guests.
I very rarely leave a review so this just goes to show how impressed we were.
We will certainly be back.

We were all impressed with the menu, how it was cooked, and presented. The ever changing menu that is never repeated showed how much thought the chef went to innovate and test new exciting new conceptions. We had squirrel, to gin-infused salmon, to king oyster mushrooms to rib-eye steak and found new fennel fans in my family. He really knows his desserts with a mad combination of flavours complementing one another delightfully.

Having moved to Ulverston some eight months ago and during Covid Base was our first place to visit. Twas certainly worth the wait, not sure if anywhere else will come close to the amazing food that was presented to us last night. This restaurant is most definitely worth a visit and we’re already planning our next.

Absolutely fabulous 7 course taster menu. Every dish presented beautifully and described by highly professional staff. Would recommend to anyone that wants an epicurean experience!

Popped in for lunch and really enjoyed it! Had previously ordered food to heat at home for Christmas (please do this again!) and a lockdown takeaway. Both absolutely delicious.
Lunch was great. Ordered a selection of small plates - perfect if you want to try a few of the menu items. My daughter is a vegetarian and it was great for her to have so many options. Everything we tried was delicious and we couldn’t quite finish the 3 small plates and portion of chips!
Sat outside as it was warm although have to say we were a little bit plagued with wasps at this time of year so would book to sit indoors in the future.

My wife and I visited here for the second time and we had a fantastic meal cooked to perfection by Mark again.
All meals were fantastic, wine decent and left with full bellies and in great spirits. Highly recommended, can’t wait to go again.

A really fantastic experience. Mark and his team have created a lovely experience, a single tasting menu experience in a small restaurant with an open kitchen where you can enjoy each dish while watching them carefully create the next. The pace of the meal was beautifully executed to leave you comfortably full and there was a nice selection of wines to accompany the dishes. There were some really stand out dishes, the smoked duck and Mojito dishes in particular but what makes this restaurant special is that the menu is different every week showing a real passion and creativity from the chefs. Local sourcing sits at the heart of the menu with fish and meat from the surrounding area. This restaurant hasn’t been open long but I think you should book soon because this is a restaurant that is really going places and soon it will be hard to get in!

Absolutely amazed with the food here, food was of an unbelievably high quality with each course bringing different cuisines and flavours. We went on one of the nights where there was a set menu and it was delicious, vegetarian and non vegetarian meals. The staff were really friendly and chatted to us at the end, and even let us practice the display of sorbet! Would very much recommend.

We dinned her for our wedding anniversary and what a treat it was. We’ve recently moved for a city and we were pleasantly surprised to have such good quality food so close to our house. The dishes are all uniquely created and changed regularly so no too nights are the same. We can really recommend this dining experience and will look forward to booking in the future

Third visit in 6 weeks says it all. Top quality local ingredients cleverly crafted into great dishes. Great service & timing give a calm and satisfying dining experience enhanced by the fact that you can see the chefs calmly creating the next course. A brilliant addition to Ulverston.

It’s not often we have the luxury of a child free night, and it was almost scuppered by our sleepover night being changed, but luckily we managed to sort it! I’m so glad we did as the evening was fabulous!
The tastes from each course were Devine! Beautifully presented in a very relaxed atmosphere. The set up was very professional and there wasn’t anything too much trouble for the waitresses who did an outstanding job. It was great watching Mark and his right hand man setting up each dish in front of us.
The evening was finished off nicely when Mark visited each table where we could comment (very positively) on the evening. Many thanks 😊

Originally popped in for a coffee after a walk up Hoad Hill but the menu looked so appealing that we ordered some small plates to share. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably price and the staff were incredibly attentive and pleasant. The ice creams to follow were also lovely! Will definitely go back when we’re in the area again!
