First visit and based on other reviews I decided to visit. This is very well cared for , from the animal enclosures and surrounding area. I felt it was more for families with younger children as there is alot to keep them entertained when not walking around to view the animals. Plenty of places to sit and eat, whether your having your own picnic or buying food on site. Having different animals from the big cats, which are my favourite, to guinea pigs was a great mixture. I had never seen a sun bear before and it was truly amazing to watch. The views are great aswell as you don't always have a view of the animals behind metal fencing so you get chance to get some great pics. I was travelling on my own and it took my about an hour to walk round the entire zoo. Worth a visit, staff are very friendly aswell which always makes a visit more pleasureable.

We took our three grandchildren here at the weekend for our first visit. After reading the food reviews we packed picnic food for the kids but my husband wated to try the food there. Good points; lots of places to stop and rest/eat, bad points; food and drink pretty awful. Queued for a hot dog but was the young guy serving was so disinterested mu husband walked away in disgust. Tried the coffee - watery so don't bother if you actually like coffee.
Dinosaur park - excellent. We walked around first and were super impressed then took the train. All really well done.
Then we walked around the zoo part. The viewing is well though out with plenty of glass to enjoy views from various angles and we saw tiger, lions and leopard but NO penguins, NO gibbons, NO red panda. Where were they all? I felt they only came out when it was feeding time. We all enjoyed the rainforest area though and went in more than once.
Good ice creams and gift shop.
Not sure I'd go back although it is a good size when you have small children with you. I just expected to see more.

This was my first time visiting this zoo. I thought the overall appearance of the zoo was very attractive and you can see they have spent a huge amount of money on it recently with all the new fencing, the gibbons and the lion enclosure. The public areas and signs were really well done and fun to look at when no animals could be seen. The biggest down side was the size of the enclosures were very small for many of the animals, particularly the red panda and penguins but also marmosets, sloths and snow leopard. Hopefully, these will be upgraded next. Also, the viewing was mostly through glass. This made it very difficult to see the animals on a sunny day due to reflections. It also felt like the animals were quite boxed in with no views out, in particular the bears, penguins and jaguars. The bird show and the native species section however were really nice. A small zoo, but I spent 4 hours revisiting the enclosures in the hope of seeing everything.

An excellent day at Hertfordshire Zoo. Staff were great and everyone who saw our child’s birthday sticker (free from ticket office) wished them Happy Birthday! It made the day really special!

Lots of places to stop and sit/eat/drink. Plus the loos were clean.

It never felt crowded because there are multiple places to view animals from - so you don’t have to all crowd at one place to get a good view like you do at some wildlife parks.

Crazy golf was a hit with whole family and the dinosaurs “were better than I expected” which anyone who has a teenager, or once was one, will know is high praise from a teenager!

Shops had a great range of items. Youngest enjoyed the outdoor play equipment and teen also tried the long slides and the small climbing wall. Would be good to have even more of the bigger kind of equipment suitable for adults / older teens like monkey bars as I’m sure they’d be use d.

We hadn’t realised there was the new Boulders Bay, so next time will bring paddling things for youngest.

What a lovely zoo! The animals looked well kept and content. The zoo works hard to cater for its guests. Lots of picnic areas, undercover and in the sun. Plenty of food, drink and icecream outlets. Play areas for all ages of kids. Plenty of toilets (and nice and clean). The raised viewing areas means it's easier to see shy animals without being in their face. Fantastic birds display. And a dinosaur walk! We had a lovely day out!

Went to the zoo with my Husband and Baby for one of their Summer Nights Experience. The zoo itself was great but very busy. Very disappointed though, we were directed into the overspill carpark where we then were expected to cross a 60 mile an hour main country road with no crossing, no traffic lights, no warning signs and no lights to help you also with a curve in the road where you can’t see all the way down. It also looks like it might be part of the park so young families crossing that road might not realise the danger. Very very dangerous and unacceptable, a potential fatality waiting to happen. I raised it to the zoo and they said they were aware of how dangerous it was but the council had failed to act to make it safe. Especially if opening the zoo in the evening there needs to be large warning signs, lights and wardens to assist and guide in that area. Pricing was around £30 for us both which was quite expensive but did enjoy the zoo itself.

We loved this zoo, it truly is excellent
The zoo is relatively flat so nice and easy to get around
What we loved is that once you arrive, the zoo and the staff don't take the p*ss at all, the maps are included, the mini golf is a great price and so nice and tucked away, the absolute HIGHLIGHT is the sun bear bakery. The lady that works in there (Friday 6th June) is so friendly and the view of the sun bears is our of this world. Other establishments would have charged a ridiculous additional cost for 'dining with the bears' and we respect that so Hertfordshire Zoo haven't done that so much

We booked to visit the zoo as we had got tickets to the Warner brother studios and booked a hotel, realising this was near by it was a must for us. Firstly our children love one zoo three so seeing where it was filmed was a yes from them. We arrived first thing and had no issues with parking, we had pre paid for tickets online and it was easy to scan in. We explored the dinosaur area first and then enjoyed the talks around the zoo which were all very informative and a great way to teach our children even more about the animals they were seeing. On the day we had booked it was later announced that Aaron, Tyler and Cam would be three so that made our children even more excited to meet them in person. We did wait in line for almost two hours but the kids played and ate during this time and I must say it was worth it. They were so lovely and friendly answering the kids question.
The zoo is beautiful, the layout, the displays of plants around and the enclousures all are well looked after and to high quality and the keepers and staff were all amazing. There was a good range of food and drinks around that were reasonably priced and there is a little gift shop which had nice items in. If we were closer I would for sure buy membership for the year, however two and a half hours is a bit far each way for us! We look forward to returning in the future and continue to follow the zoos excellent work on social media and one zoo three is a very loved and watched program still! Also to be noted that it’s a great price for a day out and offers a great playground as well as a splash area as well. Fab day - don’t hesitate to go and watch the bird show and time the talks so you can benefit from the fab knowledge! The summer evenings on offer atm look fab! Again if only we were closer!

We visited this week, took a day off of work and took my 3 year old Niece who loves Dinosaurs, we were travelling nearly 2 hours so decided to purchase lunch whilst there to save it sitting in the car and having to drag it around with us, definitely the right choice to go mid week, it wasn't busy at all and you could spend time looking at the animals without feeling you had to move to let someone else look. We had already decided that we would do the dinosaurs first, then have a doughnut whilst we waited for the train, here was our first disappointment, the doughnut shack was shut, as was the loaded fries place next to it. We thought maybe just because it was quite so we went to the other side of the zoo to check out the Bamboo kitchen, it was also shut, as was the Restaurant Pangea, tumble jungle food, Dino Bites and the ice cream cottage, Luckily we had brought a couple of small snacks for the child but we were really hungry by this point and had spent over an hour going round the zoo trying to find somewhere to eat. We finally found the sun bear cafe which is located up on the platform that runs around the top of the bears, this was limited to toasted sandwiches' and croissants, not great for gluten intolerances but i had no choice, it was give myself stomach ache for the rest of the day or be hungry. Our toasted sandwiches' were only toasted on one side and really left a lot to be desired. on the way out we found that the gift shop sold ice-creams so were able to spend £3.50 on a magnum for the niece. Yes £3.50!! I checked the website to make sure i hadn't missed anything in 'things i need to know' and it clearly stated "All of our food is freshly made on site each day". A nice zoo, not too big, a fair bit to see but not being able to get anything to eat really, really let it down. We wont be making the 4 hour round trip again.
