We booked Dinos after Dark on Halloween. It was excellent, so well organised.
Three hour slot is perfect to experience everything. It was scary a bit in way dinosaurs would be scary but not gory, Halloween-tacky, creepy. Perfect for my seven year old.

We did the dinosaur trail first - you think you’ve seen it all before but you still end up being impressed by it. Lots of things to be surprised by, great lighting and sound, especially for night time.

Then we were jus on time for UV light puppet show. The seating area was damp because of the weather but we hardly noticed. Very clever show. (May be they should turn down the sound of their speaker a little bit though). It was Halloween themed but funny.

Lots of snack/hot drink options here under beautiful Christmassy lights. We didn’t buy any so not sure how good they are.

We went to the playground after which at dark is all the more exciting to discover for the little ones.

Next we went to the silent disco. Great DJ. Lovely ladies helping with the earphones, checking the volume before handing to children.

Then we went to face-painting, glitter tattoos area. Queues of about 5 families in each for us. Included in the price.

Finally there was the big slide to go on in a secluded area. And our time was up.

Definitely worth the £15 we paid each.

We took our granddaughter to the Zoo for the day, it was rainy but we still enjoyed it. We walked around the Dino area first which is well done and the kids walking round seemed to really enjoy it. Then we went to the soft play area where our granddaughter spent over an hour playing, while we had drinks from the café, which you can take int the soft play area where they have tables to sit and relax.
In the afternoon the rain eased off and we saw all the animals who all seemed happy and looked after, most of the animals were out in their enclosures which was nice to see. We would visit here again in the future.

Came along with my 12 year old son. A very enjoyable 5 hour visit. Great views of all animals on the different level walkways. Saw the beautiful lioness very close up which was a real treat. Many info boards about conservation both within the zoo and projects they support elsewhere- more than I recall at other places. The site appears inclusive- not many public places have a multi-faith space set aside. The zoo seems to have very inclusive recruitment in terms of staff diversity. Before we left my son wanted to have a second look round the Dino trail too! We look forward to another visit.

Thanks to One Zoo Three, my animal-mad 8 year-old had this as his top wish for the Christmas holidays. I wasn’t looking forward to it as we live 2 hours away and have recently been to much better-known zoos (Bristol, London and Whipsnade). However, I had to agree with my son that Hertfordshire Zoo is great!
We knew it wasn’t the biggest zoo on earth, but the selection of animals is really unusual (sun bears, jaguars, snow leopards!) and they all seem happy and well cared-for. What made the experience particularly special for us was the large number of short, accessible keeper talks and the fact that all the staff were willing to chat, and seemed genuinely interested in what my son had to say (and he can talk about animals for as long as you’ll let him). The small size actually seemed an advantage on such a cold day as we had time to see everything, including the more exciting animals several times, and have a well-needed hot chocolate in the cafe as well.
I would thoroughly recommend this zoo for anyone interested in animals and conservation.

We're just back from a wonderful time at Hertfordshire Zoo!

We arrived early on New Year's Eve and explored the Zoo ourselves before embarking upon a Junior Zookeeper Experience, which was fantastic! The Zookeeper Experience was a Christmas present for my son who loves One Zoo Three.

The experience surpassed all our expectations and it was lovely to chat to Lynn and Tyler, the owners of the zoo! We were then shown around the zoo by Jennifer and got up close and personal with some of the animals. Jennifer was so kind and patient with my son who was talking non-stop due to interest and excitement. We learned so much about the animals and will cherish photos and memories we have now.

Thank you so much to all who made our trip from Edinburgh so magical!

Had a wonderful day during a not-so-busy time of year. Facilities and enclosures were well looked after and the staff were very pleasant - particularly Caelean who was working hard on site and was so nice to us. Thank you.

What an amazing place! We went yesterday for our son’s birthday. We travelled all the way from Hull as our son is ‘One Zoo Three’ obsessed so the pressure was on for a great day but it certainly delivered everything and more! The zoo itself is very open, clean, really well laid out, lots of bins, toilet stops and places for coffee- our favourite was the cafe by the Sun Bears, you can have coffee and look out at the Bears- stunning! The information (not just written but visual) about the animals and the zoo itself is brilliant and very kid friendly. The families passion and enthusiasm for conservation really comes through. So much to learn. We really love animals and so something that is really important to us is seeing that they are cared for, happy and content. Great to see here. The enclosures were large and full of interactive activities for the animals. Was very obvious that all are very much loved. Our favourites were the Jaguars- Kumal and Kedera. We spent 6 hours at Hertfordshire Zoo but could easily have stayed longer! Added bonus was the bird show AND we even got to meet Aaron who was so wonderful and approachable. Thank you Hertfordshire Zoo- we will definitely be back and next on our list is the Big Cat Sanctuary 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Went to visit and take part in the Capybara experience. It's a small zoo and it was a cold January day so we weren't sure what to expect. We were really impressed. Every interaction we had with anyone working there was fantastic. A really friendly welcome, and an explanation as to where everything was and how to find our way around. We were pleased to see that some of the animals weren't visible - in that cold weather, it was good to see that they had somewhere to go to shelter and stay warm. We went to the lemur talk which was interesting and well delivered, and when we spoke to the person who was talking, she was helpful and friendly and full of enthusiasm for my son.

The Capybara experience was a fantastic way to spend half an hour, we were met, talked through Capybaras and the history of the zoo with a hot drink and taken to meet the capybaras. We fed them and were able to stroke them, with a keeper with us to talk us through them. My son was very enthusiastic and the keeper talked to him throughout.

We were impressed at the animatronic dinosaurs and the train that runs through that area. We had breakfast in a cafe in the zoo and lunch in the restaurant. I was impressed at the price and quality of both as well as the customer service. At the cafe, there was a window from the cafe into the sun bear enclosure, so had a great view whilst we were there.

We met Peter Sampson, who owns the zoo, before we left, who had so much time for us and like everyone else we met was wonderfully friendly.

My son was asking when we were going to visit again before we had even made it back from this visit.

Thanks to the team there for such a good experience

What a find. Definitely worth a visit with young kids. But, also lots for adults and the way in which the enclosures have been designed means that you get to see far more of the animals than in other zoos (e.g. Whipsnade). The whole layout is much better than at Whipsnade and there are almost as many animals in a smaller area, so more bang for your buck as it were. Food choices are limited, but you don't go to the zoo to have a gourmet meal!! Maybe not yet....
