Mr Christopher Field
I first met Mr Field after the death of my mother (aged 97yrs) following a short stay in hospital (Rother area) during the Covid outbreak of early 2022. At such a great age her death was still a surprise and made more upsetting due to lack of ability to visit her during her last few weeks and ascertaining any information on her condition during the stay.
Whilst making arrangements the funeral director put me in contact with Christopher Field as an experienced celebrant. I do not live close to the Rother area and initial contact were made by email and Zoom meeting(s). These meetings were most informative about the procedures for the service at a local crematorium not having arranged one before.
Discussions were centred around timings and process and how a celebrant made this a smooth process taking the pressures of the occasion away from the family when required. In this case as an only son I wanted to give a eulogy relevant to the family present. Clearly, Mr Field was aware of this and that in the moment this may not happen as planned, but it was reassuring to know that he would take over if this happened. Much of this was discussed via Zoom meeting(s) and a two way email exchange of my proposed eulogy and music choice and how this fitted in the timings for the ceremony.
Given my distance from the area I had confidence in Mr. Field and that the occasion would pass as I wanted. The first face-to-face meeting was on the day of the funeral he met with my family and assured us that all was going well. He conducted the service, gave an introduction, stood in readiness during the eulogy which I gave, and gave a great summary to round the occasion.
Sadly he could not attend the wake due to work load, but played a great overall administering role for the service, the immediate family, and several friends and acquaintances.
At a time of both sadness and stress he managed the situation well.

I want to thank Chris for the time and effort he put in to organise a group cruise as a large club event. The planning started in 2023 and culminated into a short break departing from Southampton to Belgium and to France on the Iona, our first ‘cruise’. Lovely time, kept the communication going and a good mix of shared time and own time, as he said ‘it’s your holiday after all’. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Absolutely brilliant service. I only needed a new watch battery but, being in Hertford today, I called in on the off chance they could replace this. Despite the fact their repair guy was not at work, the staff replaced the battery when another jeweller had said the watch needed to be sent away. They then texted me to say it was fixed and for a very reasonable price.

Really friendly and knowledgeable jewellers. They were able to fix a worn catch on a much loved watch which another jeweller could not do. I also had a battery fitted to an expensive watch. I felt I could trust them to look after my jewellery whilst in their care. Also have some lovely pieces in their shop at fair prices. Definitely worth a visit.

We have used Chapter 79 over the last few years for redesigning and recreating an existing engagement ring, cleaning wedding rings (highly recommend this as they looked brand new after this service) and helping me to design a ring from scratch for a big birthday. Jackie and Andy are responsive, friendly and patient! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them they are a delight to work with.
