Located very close enough to the motorway network to be easy to get to, but far enough away and shrouded to ensure that there is no noise, this is a great hotel with exceptional facilities, including the pool, spa and gym. It was made better with its new refurbishment and decor last year. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much hassle.

Long drive to an impressive building - the perfect setting for the wedding to which we'd been invited.
Check-in was smooth except we had to carry all our luggage through the hotel and upstairs as surprisingly in a substantial building such as this, there are no lifts and help was only offered as an afterthought.
Our room (92) was a bit soulless but just as we'd booked - with two very comfy double beds. The double aspect was a bonus and the view gorgeous.
For the size of the room, the wardrobe was miniscule - less than a standard single I'd say and hardly any full length hanging space due to the ironing board provided.
To our surprise, there was no phone in the room. On enquiring, we were told just to nip down (-quite a nip actually as we were at an extreme end of the large building), even in the middle of the night or to use our mobile! I did wonder how an even more elderly couple might cope with this inconvenience, especially in an emergency.
The bathroom was the major problem. Two of the four recessed lights were out of action and even when they were replaced, the light was not good. Thank goodness we only had a shower as the bath didn't drain and even when this was attended to, there was little improvement. Added to this, there was no seal whatsoever between the screen and the bath, so each time we showered, a lake formed on the bathroom floor.
The restaurant provided a decent package dinner on our arrival and weekend breakfast. However, on the Monday we were told that breakfast ended at 9.30am. Consequently, the queues for seating and the buffet were long and the kitchen clearly couldn't cope with prompt replenishment.
These problems were a shame and a surprise. The hotel hosted three weddings that weekend I believe, so should have been prepared for many guests.

Modern, stylish generously sized family rooms with joy of two proper king size beds in family room instead of the sofabed put-u-up found in other hotels. Nice bar and good breakfast. Close to motorway which was a bonus for us. Smooth service and friendly staff. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

We had waited a year to finally use our sons gift for a weekend stay at this hotel due to Covid restrictions so we were really looking forward to our stay.
The hotel looks great from the outside and the reception staff were really helpful and parking although busy (boxing match and wedding)was onsite.

The main stairway is quite grand and impressive and our room was on the 1st floor.
At first sight the room was nice, the view of the rooftop not so nice but it didn’t bother us, however, there was no stay or lock on the window at all and I had to keep it open with a teaspoon to get air in as the room was very warm even without heating being on.
The bathroom was a nice size and the shower was good but we had no hot water in the taps the whole weekend.

I accept this is an older building but the floorboards creaking in the room above and the feeling that they were trying to get their steps in at night got a bit wearing.

The fire alarm must have gone off around 11 times during the weekend and the last time was 4.45am on the Sunday Morning, nog for long but it def made you jump and woke you like it should ( but not when it’s another false alarm)

The Leisure facilities were spot on, pool was nice and the sauna and steam rooms were really relaxing, also the coffee made By Joe was very nice, he was also very polite and we had a good conversation with him which was nice, the other staff in there were helpful too.

The main bar was well stocked and seating area was comfy, the restaurant looked nice although we didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food or service.

We were a little disappointed with the stay with the alarms and room faults but we did enjoy our stay and the bed was quite comfy and big too.

With the faults being sorted we would probably use the hotel again and would definitely book spa treatments well in advance to avoid disappointment.

My wife and I stayed overnight and other than a few trivial niggles our overall impression was of a good, well-managed hotel with excellent staff. An added bonus is that there is a 7Kw EV charging point available to guests for free.
The restaurant was extremely busy due to a coach party on the evening of our stay and although the wait was a little longer than we would have liked it was well handled by the wait staff and the food was excellent.
We will definitely return should we need another Lancashire stay.

Recently stayed at the Mecure Dunkenhalgh for an overnight break, after having visited previously. Enjoyed the use of the thermal suite and pool and jacuzzi. We each had a 50 minute treatment included and chose the back, neck and scalp massage. This was a very relaxing treatment with focus massage on whichever area we needed, we both enjoyed it.
The food in the evening was delicious and we were very impressed with what was included as part of our package, (starter, main and dessert), we both devoured the steak. Breakfast was also good.

Our only criticisms would be, the bedroom was far too hot and we couldn't open all windows, as one had obviously been painted closed and the other disappointment was the lunch from the bar; there was no brown bread available and then we were presented with white sliced bread, would have expected a higher standard for the price paid.
However, we enjoyed our stay and was definitely value for money. Thank you

Just returned from a two night stay at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel with my wife. Great value and a wonderful old building full of history. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Couldn’t really fault it bearing in mind the rates. We will definitely be back.

Excellent place to be, family friendly, spacious rooms. We had a wonderful time. Gym and spa, nice breakfast and welcoming staff. Available parking but you have to pay. We were lucky to find it free during our stay.
