I love this hotel and spa. It's a little dated but that's part of the charm.

Good hotel but it took us 5 minimum to walk from the reception to the room! We had young children so would have appreciated a room nearby rather literally at the end!
Overall an average hotel to stay! nothing special or extra ordinary. Only good thing was location

Would love to have given the hotel 5 * but the rooms I would say need a lick of paint, that adide the bed and pillows were the most comfortable I've slept on at a hotel. Then leaving yesterday there were a few rain/water leaks in the bar and reception ceilings.... I had a rather soggy bag when I picked it up off the bar floor.
Chloe couldn't be anymore helpful than she was, then finding out it was her 1st day on the bar and looking like she had been left on her own, she did a fantastic job! Ignore the negative comments that were made by a minor group of people.
The food I had in the Cameo restaurant was delicious been a while since I had a steak as nice as it was and it was cooked perfectly.
But watch out its £5 for a bottle of water, not tap water, so felt ripped off there and if you have gammon it's an extra £1.50 for a fried egg on top.

I have been a returning customer for the last 7 years and have a strong fondness of this beautiful place.
My most recent review isn't so great as I'd like it to have been but I would think that overall my review is good and shouldn't deter people from staying here.
Unfortunately during this stay it was primarily the maintenance team and management that tainted our experience.
Upon entering our room, we quickly realised none of the lights worked. Speaking as an electrician I can confirm that this is because the 3 switches for them had been wired incorrectly. This must be done by a competent electrician who knows what they are doing. Whoever wired room 69, clearly didn't know what they were doing.
Ultimately this fault was not rectified during our 3 night stay.
Additionally the toilet seat wasn't attached on one side and again this was not rectified for the duriation of our stay, despite 3 managers being involved in our complaint. We were only offered a change of room on the 3rd time of raising it on our last night, which we decided was more inconvenient than making do as we were for just a few more hours.
We were also very let down by the quality of cleaning of the bathroom this time. Long clumps of hair were still on the wall and in the plug hole. Also the shower hose was absolutely disgusting. It was black with grime that came off in our hands when we touched it. This was very unpleasant.
Thankfully the shower hose, was something that was quickly rectified morales immediately.
Now the 3 managers we spoke with were polite, apologetic and did try to put things right. However, apart from the hose, nothing was done.
Beyond these issues with our room, we were sad to see more of the spa facilities removed, including rooms they actually use in their advertising. The mens changing rooms were in a poor state, towel hooks broke, door handles snapped off, 3 showers not working properly out of 6 (only 1 sign posted), lots of the grout and sealant was mouldy and or broken/missing.
A significant amount of TLC needed here.
Okay, that is the moan over now for the good parts...
The front line reception staff and especially a mention for the usual gentleman hosting Breakfast (I think his name is Aziz - he has been there for 20 years I think now), they are all lovely, genuinely caring people and I belive they take pride in their work and Dunkenhalgh.
The gymnasium is fantastically equipped and if you want a hotel with a good gym, you won't be displeased with this as a great choice. It is clean, well kept and comprehensive.
The Spa, although no longer as wondeful as it once was, it is still a beautiful edition at a limited extra cost 2 steam rooms, a sauna and cool down room. They were clean and in good condition. We also appreciated the temperature of the main pool as it wasn't uncomfortably cold as we often find in other places.
The restaurant and bar offer a good compliment of drinks and food and as you may expect, at a premium hotel price hike. The food quality was good and presented well. It would have been good to have a room service menu in the room though.
Breakfast was very good. A great range, a good toaster (yes these thing make a difference, belive me) and good units for distribution of the jams and spreads. Eggs were made fresh and with haste and the additional little things like intercontinental meats, cheeses and melons etc add a more quality touch to the meal.
£16.50 per person was acceptable for the wide spread and good quality. Again the host was a friendly reminder of good customer service here.
During our stay there was a car show over the weekend so the hotel was busy and car park full. This didn't negatively impact our stay apart from the small headache of searching for a suitable car park space as more than half of it was covered in show cars.
There may be a further update to this review as we are still waiting for the management team to put it right for the problems we experienced during our stay. We feel that the approach so far has been lacking the right level of remedy.
