I have previously visited this Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa to use the spa facilities with my daughter on 2 occasions and more recently with my husband in December 2024. The staff have always been welcoming and it is a lovely idyllic location so my husband and I decided to book an over night stay last weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Imagine our delight when expecting to be booked into one of their lovely looking hotel rooms, we were booked into one of their exclusive, spacious courtyard rooms instead. Super!!!

The restaurant is very spacious and accommodated us nicely for our evening meal and again for breakfast despite how popular the hotel was for the weekend. Our meal was generous and tasty and there was a good selection of continental, cooked breakfast and juices the following morning.

The bar area is very comfortable with beautiful high backed armchairs which gives it modern relaxing feel.

Each contact with staff members whether receptionists, spa facility hosts, restaurant or bar staff was very pleasant as everyone approached us with a smile and showed that they really wanted to help.

We are looking forwards to our next visit there.

Fantastic overnight Spa break. From arrival, nothing was too much for the staff to help with. We arrived an hour early and were told our room was ready. We were given a double room having requested a twin room. When we rang down to Reception this was quickly rectified and the Receptionist helped us move to our fantastic twin room with 2 double beds, a bath and separate shower. The spa area was very clean and the treatments were very good. The evening meal included in our package was superb, we both chose a delicious rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection. At breakfast, the staff could not be more attentive. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing. We will be returning.

Beautiful room with lovely view.
Very clean.
Writing 'happy birthday' on the mirror for me was a nice touch.
Spa experience and afternoon tea was lovely.
My only criticism was the service during evening meal. 22 mins from being seated to asking what we wanted to drink seemed lengthy. Food was great when it came. Then once we'd finished a 41 min wait without drinks and with dirty plates still on table before anyone came back to us. Restaurant wasn't unusually busy and there were plenty of staff on so the long waits seemed unnecessary.
Other than that a lovely stay.

I came at the weekend with my mum and our 2 friends for a birthday trip. Our stay on a whole was lovely, a nice bar and lovely food. There was a long wait for drinks in the bar in the afternoon but the barman was on his own doing table service in a rush of a dew guests at once, but still have great service and made us laugh.
The only thing that was a let down was disability accessibility. As it is an old building the flags on the ground was a hazard for using a walking frame, despite this the hotel was brilliant and provided a wheelchair. My friend phoned up and asked for an accessible room and was told was provided, was a let down to find a bath/shower which she struggled to get into due to mobility. Our room was lovely and clean, the only problem was it was extremely warm in the night even without the radiator on.
The spa was clean and very nice, again the only let down was the very steep ‘disabled access slope’ down to the facility. But the treatments were great and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The gym was great and a good range of equipment.
We had a lovely stay and the staff, food and service was great but the only let down was the disabled access.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this hotel. Stopped here once before and both times found the rooms that we stayed in very spacious and comfortable. The staff seem really friendly and obliging and the food was enjoyable too. The hotel is in nice grounds with good access for visiting local attractions

My husband and I live in Edinburgh and decided to visit England for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. We chose to stay at the Mercure, and we had an amazing experience!

The staff were incredibly friendly and polite, especially Sam at reception and Aziz from the restaurant — both went above and beyond to make our stay special. Our room was beautifully decorated for our anniversary, which was such a lovely surprise.

The hotel itself is stunning, our room was super comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant’s ambiance was fantastic, and the spa was a wonderfully relaxing experience. I also really enjoyed the gym!

I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion — it’s the perfect choice!

Absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the DeLacy suite and oh wow we were blown away! It was stunning - felt like we lived there it was that big! The bed was so comfy, the couch was perfect. The bathroom was absolutely stunning. The staircase was beautiful. We did not want to leave. The lady who checked us in was so helpful, polite and very professional.

The hotel is located within impressive grounds with a long driveway and plenty of parking. The historic building has an impressive frontage.
As with many hotels in historic buildings, the rooms are a bit variable. It was good to see that there was painting and decorating taking place within the building and it had a feel of being on the up and up. The restaurant and bar area were very good.
We found all the staff to be excellent, so would definitely stay again.
