Charles Winfred Dunn, the previous owner of Stone Manor, bought the hotel from Franco D'anielo in 1984 and since then has developed and extended the country house hotel into the beautiful and imposing property it is today. The Original Stone Manor sat majestically amid the estate grounds for many years, dating back to the Doomsday Book, sadly this magnificent building was destroyed by fire. In 1926, James Culcheth Hill rebuilt Stone Manor as his private dwelling with many of the timber structures being re-sited from the last English "Man-of-War" fighting sail ship, the H.M.S Arethusa, to go in to battle. H.M.S Arethusa was built in 1849 at a cost of £97,000, a sum that would probably equate to around £5,000,000 today. In the late 1960's Stone Manor became a private members club and becoming the first premises to have a swimming pool in the borough brought with it many opportunities. In June 1970 Stone Manor became a Hotel and opened its doors to the public so other could enjoy its gardens, tennis court, swimming pool and restaurant. In the mid 1980's building work began extending the premises in to the magnificent building we see today.

The North Devon Show held it's AGM at Portmore last week. We held the main business of the AGM in a room adjoining the restaurant where 96 people sat down to dine. The food was first class, the staff very courteous and overall there was a lovely atmosphere. We would highly recommend Portmore Golf Park as your venue.

Really nice office space with good sized units. Provides a good 60 mbit broadband package (which is not always the case in this town) and a nice cafe near the reception. Meeting rooms are top notch and generally available at a decent cost.

Have had a couple of Spa days at Moor Hall, and they have been lovely, one included afternoon tea and the other an evening meal in the Country Kitchen. Spa facilities were great and staff brilliant! Recently had a meal for my dads 65th in Oct in the Oak Room - wonderful attentive service and a scrumptious meal! Have also attended party nights, and despite catering for a couple of hundred people, the meals were still piping hot and delicious !

My husband and I stayed in the Cottage for 2 nights for our mini-moon, it was brilliant. The cottage was spacious, clean and tidy, well presented and for them cosy, cuddly nights a log burner was lit for us! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much of a bother, all our needs were catered for. The restaurant and food is 5* by my recommendation, the service, presentation and taste of the food was unbelievably exquisite. If we lived closer to the resort, I wouldn't hesitate in going back every weekend as it would be money well worth spent, but unfortunately we live 4 hours away and is a distance to travel, however, we will definitely be returning next year for our Anniversary and hopefully stay for longer than 2 days.
