Kinsellas Hair Salon in Woodbridge in Suffolk are very proud of their apprenitce, Lizzie Bickers, who won her first competition which was held at Wherstead Park in Ipswich.
Lizzie is pictured here holding her certificate alongside her model, Sophie. She starrted work at Kinsellas Hair Salon, Woodbridge, about two years ago and started her appreticeship on a full time basis when she left school in July 2011.
Kathy Kinsella, the owner of Kinsellas Hair Salon said "I'm so proud of Lizzy winning her first competition especially as the idea for her model was all her own and the competition was fierce this year. She deserved to win as she works so very hard and is such a talented young lady."
Lizzie was clearly thrilled and said "It was a complete shock to win, I spent a lot of time working on my design and the girls at work were so helpful. It is so nice to think that my work was special. I can't wait for next year!"
About Hairdressing apprenticeships
For Lizzie, her hairdressing apprenticeship has required her to do most of her training in house as well as going to college for one day every two weeks to do the theory. The courses usually last for two years with an option to do a more advanced level 3 course. Kathy Kinsella said that she encourages her apprentices to go for the level 3 as all her staff have this qualification at her salon.
Lizzie says "as an apprentice you have to work really hard but most of all you have to really love what you do. If you enjoy yourself and put everything into your work you get a lot out of it."
