Summer is now here... apparently, and with it comes hot weather...apparently!

It's a good time, whatever the weather, to take a look at your home and check all your electrical appliances.

If the weather does improve there is a danger of your electrical appliances reaching their limit when we are faced with high temperatures for extended periods of time.

To minimise the risk of an electrical fire there are some precautionary measures you can take which are easy to implement around the home.

Barton Electircal suggest the following for a safe and hot but not firey Summer!:

  • Window air conditioners must be properly installed and secured.
  • They must be plugged directly into a grounded outlet.
  • Do not run small air conditioners constantly, shut unit down for 15 minute intervals.
  • Washing machines and dryers, dish washers should be used early in the day or after dusk in the evening.
  • Close drapes and blinds to help keep your home cool.
  • Turn off all non-needed electrical items when not at home. This includes computers, lights, stereos, and TVs.
  • Use heavy duty UL-approved extension cords only.
  • Do not run cords under carpeting.
