What can we do with the children in Watford this half term?

Gale force winds, torrential rain, power cuts and floods. And to add to that list of natural disasters comes another… half term.

The temptation has to be to buy in a job lot of DVDs and computer games, provide an endless supply of junk food and grit your teeth for the entirety. Not only is that unwise and unhealthy, but it’s unlikely to work. And children with cabin fever are a nervous breakdown just waiting to happen.

Brave the elements, get out your hats, scarves, gloves and wellies and go see what Watford has to offer to entertain, educate and stimulate the kids this half term.

Half term Bug Club at Chorleywood Cricket Club, Chorleywood Common

Bug Storeys is about learning to love, protect and appreciate nature. It’s about kids, and adults, discovering the hidden, and sometimes endangered wildlife that surrounds us whilst having fun and getting their hands dirty.

At the half term Bug Club children will build bat boxes, toad halls, bird feeders and bug hotels! Qualified, knowledgeable Bug Rangers are on hand to lead and supervise activities, and with their infectious enthusiasm will entertain, educate and inspire.

Farmyard'n'Funworld at the Lincolnsfield Centre, Bushey

Farm animals and more! Of course there are ponies, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks as well as little furry animals like the rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice and hamsters. But not all farms allow you to get up close with peacocks, parrots, chipmunks, ferrets and chinchillas!
Children can feed and stroke the bigger animals, and give some of the smaller ones a cuddle (I’ll pass on the rats if you don’t mind!)

There is an outdoor adventure play area which has slides, climbing nets, tractors, rockers, tree house and the famous "Farmyard Flyer" aerial runway, or, if you want to be warm and dry there’s a giant indoor play area, plus snacks and meals in the cafeteria. Round the day off in the charming shop where you can by souvenirs and gifts, animal feeding bags, 1940’s memorabilia and even small pets, animal feeds and farm fresh eggs.
