From Saturday 25th July until Sunday 2nd August 2015, a castaway themed beach – measuring 20 metres long by 15 metres wide and made out of 100 tonnes of real sand – will transform the town centre.

And as the Big Beach will be next to the pond, it will feel like you're on the coast in the middle of Watford!

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “This beach is going to be great fun for everyone. Why go all the way to the seaside when we are going to bring the beach here? You can go to some brilliant shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well when you visit our beach in Watford.

“Plus we’re going to have a whole range of free activities going on every day at the Big Beach – from a children’s pirate party to a 40-piece brass band. Everyone’s welcome to join in, and they’re for all ages. Plus there will be beach huts and beach food here.”

The Big Beach is open from 9am until 9pm every day. On Saturday 25th July, you can take part in face painting, magic, yoga and Everyone Active will be around at 12:30pm and 2:30pm, running exercise classes.

On Sunday 26th July, Fizz Kids will be holding a Pirate Party, complete with a pirate fancy dress competition, a pirate themed magic show at 2:30pm and a wide array of swashbuckling games.

And that's just the start – there are plenty of other free activities taking place throughout the week, as well as a larger programme of events running throughout the summer as part of the Big Events series.
