Completing a learning course is always a big achievement, but for one Watford man, it has even greater sentimentality after he was given an award to commend his success.

Dermot McCarthy, 52, of Widgeon Way, Watford, was presented with the Star Award by The Apprentice star, Melody Hossaini, after winning in the Teacher Training and Continuing Professional Development category.

Mr McCarthy was recognised for teaching mechanic skills to students at Uxbridge College, where he has also taken a part-time teacher training qualification.

Achievers of all ages celebrated with friends, family and staff at Uxbridge College’s Annual Awards Ceremony 2011 on September 22, at The Beck Theatre in Grange Road, Hayes.

The winners were chosen from among the 10,000 full-time and part-time students at the college, with Achievement Awards for each of the college’s teaching areas, Star Awards, and Special Awards up for grabs.

Special guest, Melody Hossaini talked about her career and presented the awards, as well as answering questions and posing for photos with students afterwards.
