Twenty-two new plots are ready for enthusiastic new allotment holders to start spring planting with the opening of the Bucks Meadow extension at Paddock Road Allotments on Friday.

Some current Paddock Road allotment enthusiasts joined Councillor Peter Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Parks and Open Spaces, to see the plots for themselves and to have a go at planting some early crops. They also took the opportunity to take a look at the two new community cabins that are now in place on the site to provide somewhere for the allotment community to use for events and other activities. Developed as part of the council’s commitment to maintaining allotment spaces in Watford, Bucks Meadow extension offers greater access to the idyllic Paddock Road site.

Situated in a truly picturesque area, and with other onsite amenities including parking and toilets and even a small shop where you can stop off for seeds, Paddock Road allotments are ideal for a family day out or for sneaking off for a little peace and quiet.

Councillor Taylor said: “The benefits of gardening to health and wellbeing are undisputed and it is great to see these new plots ready and waiting for their first tenants.

“The active community at Paddock Road allotments is very welcoming and there is always someone ready to admire the fruits of your labour or to offer a little advice when asked. It’s a terrific space for families to spend time together but the serious gardener will also be more than satisfied with the high quality plots we have available.

“If you’d like to put your green fingers to the test it’s well worth venturing out here.”

Individual plots are available at many of the borough’s allotments, simply search for ‘allotments’ on the council website for details: contact Veolia, who manage allotments on behalf of the council, on 0203 567 6900.
