Residents and visitors to Watford really must make a trip to the Colne River Park, that comprises open spaces along the river, which runs the length of the borough.

Over the past year Watford Borough Council and its partners have been improving the area for wildlife and the enjoyment of visitors by planting thousands of wild plants.

Ian Mather, Colne River Park Manager, said, " Thanks to volunteers from BTCV Green Gym and local church groups, land that was previously not attractive to wildlife was last year planted with wild flowers and mown by council parks staff under a 'conservation regime'.

"This spring all the hard work has been rewarded with a splendid show of spring flowers including the scarce Snakeshead Fritillary (shown here) which currently carpets a riverside meadow off Radlett Road."

BTCV Green Gym is a unique scheme that helps local residents to get fit and healthy by becoming physically active in an outdoor environment. You can come along for as long as you like, enjoy the outdoors and work at your own pace!
